NOT SURE WHAT IS MORE JUSTIFIABLE - TO CALL THEM BOLT THROWER LIKE BATTLE TANK OR ASPHYX INSPIRED HEAVILY ARMOURED DREADNAUGHT. NEVER MIND – IF YOU’RE INTO ULTIMATE, HEAVY AS HELL DEATH METAL – DECAYING IS WHAT YOU SEARCH FOR! HERE IS MATIAS

Guess you have Decaying debut CD in hands by now. What are your impressions? And what expectations you link to this release?

Yes, I received the band’s CDs last week. They’re looking awesome. The graphic artist totally nailed it, really good. I have seen much worse stuff on `more professional` releases. I don`t have any high expectations quite yet – as Decaying was formed less than a year ago. Every song, except `Strangled` are less than a year old as well. It`s always a hard road as a newcomer. We`re hoping for more visibility now and to get more listeners of course. Will take some time, but things are definitely advancing! We`re confident that this kind of music will find its way... Although I know that we have no chance of `getting big` – in that case we should change the genre to metalcore or to poprock, you know.

`Devastate` CD contains tracks from 2 Decaying demos. Were these distributed before? Do you prefer to call it a debut full-length or compilation of these earlier releases?

The two first demos `New Order` and `The Annihilator`, yep. We have distributed them only in the internet and I have sent some to certain review places – and received suprisingly good response. I think we didn`t have much time to think about distributing them anyway, as we received contact from Hellthrasher Distribution even before the release of our second demo! I would say it`s a mix between those two... More leaning toward `compilation of the first two demos` because of the drum machine.

Sort of recognizable mark for Decaying are these over 10 minutes anthems. Gosh, there are demos that are shorter than these! Was it on purpose or turned out this way naturally?

I have tendency of writing these long songs which large amount of riffs. Decaying is definitely a riff oriented band. The problem is basically that I have problems of stopping the songs early. Always a new idea comes up and prolongs the song. We don`t have any choruses yet, so the songs don`t have that basic structure either – they always move on without stopping in 3-4 minute time frame. In my opinion none of the songs are boring, even though they may have some passages that can be shortened a bit. Right now the long songs distinct us from the mass at least! While other demo bands have 3-4 minute songs consisting of three riffs – we have couple of over ten minute songs with over 8 riffs. And of course `Annihilation` is no less than over 14 minutes long `anthem`, so…

Ok, so what was the story: `we love old Asphyx, so will practice my voice skills to sound as if I were Martin van Drunen` or maybe rather `my screams are so alike to his, so what Death Metal could we perform, if not `The Rack` worship`. Joking now, but you`d agree, this can be a matter, when these high pitched vocals come in?

Haha; it could have been simple as that for sure! Comes as no surprise: I`m a very big fan of Van Drunen`s vocals in old Asphyx, Pestilence and nowadays in Hail Of Bullets. They`re just so `in your face` and out of the ordinary – actually they sound like his throat is full of deadly acid or something. Although I think he is one of the best or even `the best` death metal vocalist; I initially didn`t aim to get anything near to his vocals out of my throat. I was just trying, on one summery day, to hit these `high pitched` screams used by Corpsegrinder for example. Instead of getting those kind of vocals, I somehow managed to get a pretty different kind of scream out of my throat. At beginning it sounded like a mixture of weak `Lemmy` and primitive Van Drunen. Instantly I thought `what the fuck` and recorded a clip with my cell phone – singing along Scorbutics, haha. So I basically found those vocals without even trying to copy Asphyx or something. The vocals possibly haven`t fully `settled yet` though, they`re pretty strange after all. But I think they`re a great variation for sure. They’re not 100% like Drunen`s though, he`s a machine! The lower growls on the other hand were taken for granted – I have used them for few years.

You use drum machine. Is it your choice or couldn`t find an indyvidual dedicated and skilled enough to join you on drums?

Yeah, unfortunately that`s true in this case – and it of course bothers us too. We didn`t have a drummer at that time and we were eager to get the first demo `New Order` done as fast as possible. Also I had used drum machine before and didn`t have the money for thinking about studio drum recordings. Everything on the first two demos are recorded and mixed/mastered home by the way.

Well, there is some risk with die hard Death Metal maniacs, who are very sensitive to anything that`s artificial and synthetic. Have no fear about this?

That is excatly what I`m fearing the most. Probably some people will find the drum machine a very bad thing although the songs are good quality. The most annoying part of computer drums are the cymbals, and they sound artificial indeed. They`re of course real samples but... yeah... Anyway, the drums should be somewhat tolerable. And trust me – I tried to make them as good as possible. Maybe we`ll rerecord these songs (at least some of them) sometime, who knows. Let`s hope the drum machine doesn`t ruin everything, I think not!

How about live shows? Do you use machine as well or hire some session drummer?

Now, fortunately, we have a drummer, (Benjam Lahdenpaa) and he can handle the songs very well. He has also nice opinions about some drum passages and is dedicaded to the band... and uses much more complex fills, etc. We will definitely have real drums on the next recording, no doubt about it (new songs already in the works). When we`re jamming songs at the rehearsal place, they absolutely crush.
Only thing we are missing now is a bass player. Then we would be ready for live shows, haha. I got the second guitar player (lead/ rhythm) sorted out now too. Otso Polenius took over Olli Suurmunne`s place as the former one couldn`t come to the band practice.

You have some lirycs about war - what interests you more: gloryfying braveness and courage of soldiers, showing meaningless from the point of private or historical sight into battlefields maybe?

Actually they both interest me, war is an really intriguing theme to me. Right now I haven`t written much lyrics from soldier`s perspective though. Decaying isn`t tied to any certain theme fortunately. I don`t have to write lyrics concerning specific themes. Anyway the lyrics will handle (mostly) war, death and so on... The typical Death Metal stuff, haha. But seriously I think that Decaying`s lyrics should be reasonable and the listener could read them, while listening, without laughing at them. You won`t hear any of this `you die, fuck you, die
motherfucker` kind of lyrical nonsense from us! Speaking about lyrics – damn I had hard times with `Annihilation`.

Do you have interest in Death Metal scene in Finland? Which old bands and which new you consider most worthy?

I don`t have that much interest in the Finnish death metal scene. We have very large amounts of demo bands sounding all basically the same – only very few of these bands stand out. Also our professional death metal scene is somewhat boring. There are large amounts of brutal death metal/grindcore and non-stop blastbeating (which is fine in some bands though) artists. Then there are many melodic death metal and death doom (not our style) bands… I don`t know many good old Finnish DM bands actually; I`d say Amorphis and Demilch. The `new ones`: Torture Killer and Wintersun. Really few to be honest. I have found my influneces mainly elsewhere.

Can you say there is knd of Death Metal center city in Finland (like Stockholm in Sweden)? Do you have any fellow local bands in your area that you could reccomend?

The metal cities in Finland are Helsinki and Oulu for sure. Helsinki is bigger so I have to say that it has the largest amount of death metal bands probably. Oulu is the `most metal` city though as it`s much smaller. Although Finnish people like metal, it`s anyway in the minority. We have one nation-wide radio station for metal, `Radio Rock`, but they play mostly shit. You won`t hear any old school death metal from there…

Imagine Bolt Thrower/Asphyx/Decaying tour, guess you would a lot for such event, right?

It would be fucking great to tour along Asphyx and Bolt Thrower. Warming up for any of our / my favourite death metal bands would be a fantastic. Then of course after the show we would go straight to the audience to prepare getting our faces melted, haha! Maybe one day we will be playing on same stage with `the old guys`!

Thank you! Oh man, that is a hard question!! I would say `M.S. Bismarck` from `Last One On Earth`, which is a classic. Such a Devastating song and album...

No I don`t think it`s a risky intro at all! in fact I think it`s a very atmospheric opening and If people don`t realize where the melody comes from then they don`t even need to own this Album!!!

QUITE SIGNIFICANT PART OF MONUMENT OF BONES MUSICK ARE THESE HORROR SAMPLES. DO YOU ALSO USE THEM WHEN PLAYING LIVE? GENERALLY, DO YOU PLAY OFTEN?

I`ve never played live with this project as we all live in different states... But you are right the horror film clips play a big part of the music!

Yes I`ve had many members involved because I`ve had alot of friends contribute to the project!!! Main core members are Joel Bagley, Greg Ponder,-Derek Malone and Richard Christy.

Not really into them myself, I`ll just stick to the originals.

Yes!!!! I would love that!!! But it would have to be done right... I usually dont like bands in horror films... much more of a Goblin, Carpenter kind of guy myself!!!

CAN YOU IN THE BEGINNING INTRODUCE YOUR BAND HISTORY AND MEMBERS.

Infernal Goathails! This is K. Helvete and I will be answering this interview. Crown ov Horns is from Sabah, Malaysia, diabolically forged in 2008 with K. Helvete on Guitars and Shaun on Drums. Shaun and I have known each other for several years, both being worshippers of Death Metal, there were a lot of talks of forming a Death Metal band, and until the year 2008 it came into existence. Ever since the beginning there were only the 2 of us and knowing the difficulty of finding band members we waste no time in doing so, and proceed to rehearse and compose songs. Rajj is a close comrade of ours and also the vocalist for Death Metal band Akagrish, we know his vocals would be suitable for Crown ov Horns` music so when we have about 3-4 songs in hand, I asked if Rajj was interested in doing session vocals for us. I invited him over during one of our rehearsal session and after that he agreed to do it, soon after that we recorded our first EP ‘Ungodly Supremacy’.
Our first EP ‘Ungodly Supremacy’ was released in November 2009 by Evil Dead Production. Intended to be sort of a promotional release, it was pressed in Pro CDr format and released in a very limited quantity. This release has already sold out by now, and to my knowledge there are still demands out there for this release. `Glorification ov War, Death & Destruction` is a split release we did with Singapore`s Soul Devour, it was released on May 2010 in Cassette Tape format through Ars Funebris Records, limited to only 200 copies.
Our upcoming MCD, entitled `Infernvs Dominatvs` features 4 new anthems, and due to high demands for the sought after `Ungodly Supremacy` EP, we have included all 4 songs from that release as bonus tracks in this upcoming MCD.
`Infernvs Dominatvs` is scheduled to be unleashed in 15/01/2011.

YOU AND SHAUN ARE CONSTANT MEMBERS OF CROWN OV HORNS AND YOU USE SESSION AND LIVE MEMBERS. IS IT HARD TO FIND FULL TIME FOR A EXTREME METAL BAND IN MALAYSIA?

We have yet to discover any suitable candidates in order to complete this band. To be honest, we have never really been searching much, the Metal scene here in Sabah is rather small, almost everyone knows each other, and every guy that you know is already in a band, or two. There are a few guys we know that are capable of handling `Crown ov Horns` music but like I mentioned, they`re already in different bands, and in fact all the session members that we take are from other bands as well.
On the contrary, I personally felt more comfortable working as a duo, especially when it comes to songwriting and such. Session members will still be evoked for recording and live desecrations, nonetheless.

DO YOU STILL SPREAD YOUR DEMO BY YOUR SELVES? OR GAVE IT UP TO EVIL DEAD AND ARS FUNEBRIS? WHAT OTHER MERCHANDISE DO YOU HAVE?

All distribution and sales are handled by the labels.
We have T-Shirt released by Mayat Wear exclusively during the `Beastfest 2010` show in 04/04/2010, Kuala Lumpur.

WHICH PART OF THE WORLD YOU GAIN MOST INTEREST FROM FANS?

Positive feedback do come in from time to time, from people all over the world and to my knowledge, so far most of the responses come from people from our own country. We have just started not so long ago, and we are still unknown to Metal heads from other countries.

YOU CANNOT SAY, THAT CROWN OV HORNS IS PURE DEATH METAL BAND, AS YOU TAKE SOME PARTS OF OTHER EXTREME METAL GENRES INTO YOUR MUSIC. CAN YOU SAY, WHICH BANDS HAS BIGGEST IMPACT ON YOU AND YOUR TUNES?

Here are a few bands that have very much inspired and influenced us, Angelcorpse, Infernal War, Vader, Behemoth and Cryptopsy.

GOT ANY SERIOUS PROPOSALS ON A FULL LENGTH RELEASE YET? DO YOU HAVE STUFF FOR DEBUT ALBUM? MORE GENERALLY - WHAT WILL BE NEXT RELEASE BY CROWN OV HORNS?

We have started composing new hymns for a full length album, it will be nothing less than what we have released so far, expect punishing war anthems that will crush ears.

CAN YOU SAY SOME WORDS ABOUT METAL SCENE IN YOUR COUNTRY? ARE THERE MANY METAL HEADS? DO YOU HAVE MANY SHOWS?

Yes, there are a lot of Metal heads in Malaysia and the number of shows varies, there are definitely more shows in Kuala Lumpur compared to the other states in Malaysia, due to the fact that Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia, the place where most people congregate.

FROM WHAT I NOTICED, METAL HEADS IN YOUR REGION OF THE WORLD ARE VERY SERIOUS ABOUT IT. IT IS MUCH MORE JUST WEEKEND ACTIVITY. WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS SO? AND WHAT PART OF YOUR LIFE METAL TAKES?

I beg to differ, just like anywhere else, some bands here take it seriously and some do not. My life is very much occupied by my day job, I work 9-10 hours a day, sometimes more. As for after-work hours, band related matters have the highest priority than anything else.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CONTACT WITH METAL SCENE, HOW LONG ARE YOU INTO METAL?

My first ever visit to a gig was probably about 7 years ago, I cannot recall much about it. I got into Metal music not so long ago, when I started to get serious with my guitar playing I was listening to a lot of heavy music, particularly Metal. In the earlier days I was always in seek of heavier music with brutal vocals and fast drumming, until I got into Death Metal, the first ever Death Metal band that I came upon was Cannibal Corpse, then I got into Death, Deicide and a few other Floridian Death Metal bands, later I discovered the rest of Metal’s subgenres, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, and so on.

DO YOU HAVE A FEELING BEING OUTSIDE OF SOCIETY AS METAL HEAD IN YOUR COUNTRY?

Definitely, the conservative society here has little knowledge of what Metal music is all about, yet again, it is how one perceives it. As for me, I am not much of a social person anyway, most of the time I only sit down with likeminded people and I rarely mix around with others, unless when I am at work and such.

HOW DOES LIVE SHOWS LOOK LIKE IN MALAYSIA? ARE YOU ALLOWED TO DRINK BEER? DO YOU HAVE MANY SHOWS FORM OTHER COUNTRIES BANDS?

Just like any other Metal shows we all know. Alcohol is of course still being consumed, despite being prohibited by laws and such. Yes, once in awhile bands from other countries do come and perform here, not as much as it supposed to be, and as far as I remember bands like Impiety, Surrender of Divinity, Lacerate, Defiled, GxSxD, etc, have played here before, and a few major bands as well, Napalm Death, Kreator, Dying Fetus, to name a few.
FYI, Infernal Curse from Argentina is currently on tour and they are stopping by to perform in Sabah on 15/01/2011.

ARE METAL CDS, CASSETTES AND SHIRTS AVAILABLE IN MALAYSIA? DO YOU HAVE LABELS AND DISTROS?

Yes, Metal CDs and such can be obtained from Metal shops, labels, distributors, etc. We have quite a number of labels here, to name a few (in no particular order), Evil Dead Production, Apocalypse Venomous Productions, Gempita Rekords, Morbid Invasion Records, Nebiula Production, etc.

YOU HAVE SPLIT TAPE WITH SOUL DEVOUR FROM SINGAPORE. DO YOU HAVE CONTACT WITH BANDS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES?

Yes, the split was released in Tape format by Ars Funebris Records. We do keep in contact with several bands from foreign countries, in fact we keep in touch with quite a number of people, not only the bands but with Metal heads, labels, distributors, basically anyone that is a part of the underground scene.

DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR COUNTRY EXOTIC TO THE METAL SCENE? DO YOU THINK SCENE, FANS AND METAL CULTURE IN YOUR COUNTRY IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD?

I believe it will always be different from country to country, there will be some similarities as well as differences, but the spirit will always be the same.

You have released a demo tape, 3 very long tracks of high sort doom death metal. Congratulations on that, especially in these days dominated with ugly and old skull death metal!

Cheers, Bart. We were all talking about playing a more classic style of death doom influenced by some old favorites when we started this band. Although on our newer material we are working on there is certainly more death metal creeping in. I am actually quite a big fan of much of the new old school death metal going around these days.

Cassette os sold out now, from what I know. How many copies did you spread? So I guess feedback was also significant?

Yes the tape is now completely sold out from us. We did a press of 300 copies. We also sold a fair amount of tapes on our Western US tour with Oak from Baltimore, MD. But, yes, the band is completely out of copies. People internationally have been really supportive!

Where your demo spread better, in USA or Europe? I guess, although it os sold out from you, can be still obtained from distros, right?

I would definitely say that most of the trades and orders came from Europe and Australia. There are still some distros worldwide that have copies of the tape. Detest, Yersinia Pestis, Vjecni Rat, AVR Label, Bloody Oath, Abysmal Sounds, Psychedoomelic, and The Cave Distro all should still have some copies kicking around.

Heard you plan to repress your demo on vinyl. How far things have gone and when this will be released? Will it have any additional tracks?

Parasitic Records from Portland, Oregon will be releasing the demo material as an LP, on 180g vinyl. There will be no additional tracks, however the songs will of course be remastered and will sound far better. I am also working on the layout at the moment and I think the packaging will be killer.

How about next release? Have any songs except these from demo?

We actually have quite a bit of other material written at this point. We will be doing a split EP with Knelt Rote, a full length album, and there is a slated four way split LP with Mourner, Pallbear, and High Priest. I would say the Knelt Rote split EP will be done before the rest of it. Although we have a fair amount of the writing done for the full length.

What I find uncommon as for death doom are these insane black-metal like vocal parts. Was it on purpose?

Absolutely, the guitarist/vocalist VB is heavily influenced by Bethlehem so these seemed a natural addition. Stylistically, these vocals were included where the riffs seemed to warrant them.

Why did you decide to press it on cassette? Yearning for the old times or effort to differ from many other bands?

We find the cassette medium to be better, and maybe less disposable, than the CDr and we did not want to press vinyl for our first release, as it is a demo after all, and we are broke, haha. It was also damn cheap to get pro cassettes pressed. I would say a bit of nostalgia did factor in as well.

I`m curious to what extent your bands name and music is coherent to your attitude? Are you equaly serious in everyday life?

An anhedonist is a person whom is not capable of experiencing pleasure. I would not classify any of the members of our band as such, although some of us do cope with severe anxiety and depression. This band more represents a vehicle to channel a lot of the horrific experiences we have had, continue to have, and would like to escape, to somewhere outside of ourselves. I would say on the day to day we are not a bunch of grimsters and dicks. At the same time we do take this band and the subject matter very very seriously.

In more general terms: do you think metal can be jouyful?

Haha, well shit, I have had some damn good times partying at shows. Generally I think maybe sound wise and concerning subject matter, it probably shouldn't be too cheery. I have heard some of these more positive "black metal" bands circulating around the States with revolutionary subject matter and such, and it strikes me as being a bit disingenuous. Just a personal preference I suppose. Heavy Metal represents darkness, whether it be the occult or otherwise, to me. Although, I am quite a fan of old NWOBHM bands and there is quite a bit of upbeat nature there.

Say some words on your lyrics, what are they about in general?

The lyrical subject matter of Anhedonist is quite personal, focusing mostly on psychological struggles. The torment of existence, the sorrow of defeat, and the endless war against the self and the world around you are all thematically very strong. We have chosen not to publish lyrics for now, though that may change in the future. We view the vocals as another piece of the overall sound, less so as a means to convey a message of some sort. I think the sound of the band overall conveys these ideas pretty effectively already.

How crowd behaves in your shows?

Honestly, I am too focused on other things during our performances to pay much attention to the audience. Sometimes people seem quite attentive or even alarmed. Other times no one pays any mind to what is going on in front of them. It depends on the type of show we are playing really.

Seattle in popular view is the city where grunge emerged. But going to metal. Have no idea of your age, but can you remember the begining of 90s? Also there are bands like Nevermore and Queensryche, but I cannot recall any extreme metal acts there. Can you reccomend any local band?

I am actually not from Seattle and have only lived here for about five years. I know in the nineties bands like Burning Witch and Thorr's Hammer were active, playing death/doom type metal. These days there are a large number of active bands, although we seem to be the only one playing the death/doom style. Some of our favorite locals are long running death metal horde Drawn and Quartered, Scorched Earth, Iron Lung, Black Breath, the now defunct In Memorium, and d-beat maniacs Deathraid.

Who are in your opinions doom death originators band? To me they are Paradise Lost/My Dying Bride/Anathema. What is your opinion on these, then and now?

The old Peaceville death/doom bands were some of our strongest influences initially, along with old Katatonia, Winter, Thergothon, and Ceremonium. I think Lost Paradise, Gothic, As the Flower Withers, The Thrash of Naked Limbs, Serenades, and Crestfallen are all incredibly important, influential albums and EPs which led to the existence of the current death/doom genre. I can't say much about current albums by these three bands as I have honestly only heard them in passing and did not really appreciate or enjoy what I heard. Early Paradise Lost especially was a huge influence on me.

Hi there George, how was your weekend?

Hi Bartuus and thanks for the interview, my weekend was very good with a lot of rehearsals and fun...!

First can you say about your name Vermillion Days, what does it stand for?

Vermillion Days means crimson days and this stands for the situation nowadays. That is to say wars without any reason, political and other kinds of propagandas, unfair bloodsheds and generally chaos into a daily "warfield. This name represents all the chaos and the misery of this world!!!

Can you say some words about bands history?

The band formed in the summer of 2007 and we haven`t changed any member yet! The band has four members: Tasos(Vocals&bass), George(Lead Guitar), Miltos(Rhythm Guitar) and Vaggelis(Drums). In the beginning, our genre was Heavy/Thrash metal but after some months we realized that we wanted to play something faster and more aggressive...! And then we moved to thrash/death metal. After a lot of covers and rehearsals we started playing some lives and composing our own songs. In the start of 2009 we recorded our first ep which is called "`In The Warfield`. After the release of the ep we had some very good lives and two of them were with the german thrashers Tankard and the Arizona thrash legends Flotsam&Jetsam! Now we are rehearsing and composing new songs for our next album.

How about members, have you played before in other bands?

We haven`t played in other bands before,because we were very young.
This is the first band we have ever played for all of us`so we are like a family!

You have debut demo released, what is the feedback for it, how does it spread?

First of all, our debut demo/ep is self-released. The feedback til'now is very good and we distribute it by ourselve.
We distribute it through the internet and live shows. It`s quite hard out there in the music industry but our love to our music keeps the faith alive! We try to promote it as good as we can!

I can hear Sepultura is strong inspiration for your band? I`d like to know your opinion on this band development, and Sepultura today?

Sepultura was a great and aggressive band with great attitude and personality to their music and we are very influenced by them! I don`t think that we like their development and Sepultura today.
I mean that Max was a huge chapter in their history and I`m afraid he can`t be easily replaced. Their attitude has changed and we really hope they gain the former glory, because we do appreciate and recognize their history in thrash! They were one of the best thrash metal bands and maybe the most aggressive...

In more general, who are your favourites in thrash scene both old and modern?

Our favourite thrash metal bands are: Sepultura(Old), Kreator, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Sadus, Sodom, Destruction, Megadeth, Metallica(Old), Heathen, Flotsam &Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Tankard, Forbidden, Atrophy, Artillery, Sacrifice, Overkill, Dew Scented, Warbringer, Warpath, Lazarus A.D and many more! However our favourite band is DEATH...!

What are your plans for next recordings? How about full length?

Well, there are already new ideas that we're working on, preproduction procedures begin in a couple of weeks and hopefully by the end of the year the actual recordings will begin! It will be our first full length album and it will have a lot of aggressive and technical stuff! The best is yet to come!

What is your opinion on Greek scene, old, and nowadays? How about Thessaloniki, are there more interesting bands?

Greek scene has a lot of good and interesting bands, but I`m afraid that they don`t work that hard. Unfortunately casualness, laziness, irresponsibility, insensibility and hypocrisy dominates in Greek scene! I mean that they could support more each other and be more realists! Also Thessaloniki has some interesting bands but they have to bow their heads, work hard and not pretend the rockstars!

Do you play live, what was your most successful show? Do you play covers now?

We had some very good live shows til now, so i can`t decide what was the most successful! Every live performance has its own passion and atmosphere! Well, we`ve covered so far songs from Sepultura, Death, Kreator, Obituary, etc.. but actually it depends on the show each time!

Was it your plan since the start to have two labels, each with specific profile of of metal music?

Not at all. LEGION OF DEATH Records has been created in early 2001, with a very special concept. In 2009, I wanted to support bands from the French regions and to release other formats, and as I will never change the original concept of LEGION OF DEATH Records, I decided to create a parallel label. So ARMEE DE LA MORT Records was born. It remains very close to the spirit of LEGION OF DEATH, but I can do many things with this label that I can`t do with LEGION OF DEATH, otherwise it would be almost like a betrayal so to speak.

When considering a band for LOD, do you pay attention the existence of the elements specific to the country of the band`s origin?

Yes, indeed. But in general a band always include something specific from their culture, consciously or not. Personally I don`t want to listen to a Peruvian or Malaysian band cloning a Norwegian band, you know... Nothing interesting there! Recently I released a 7``EP by FUNERAL IN HEAVEN and the songs are entirely inspired by their own culture and history, you feel it both musically and lyrically, and this is what I seek the most with LEGION OF DEATH Records. I released a 7``EP by LUCIFERA almost at the same time, and even if there is no traditional instruments or anything, it is still purely South American to me because it has the raw sound typical from this continent, it has the blasphemous lyrics in Spanish, so all in all these bands are both ``traditional`` to me, the approach is different but that's exactly what I want to support with my label. Bands with identity!

Which of so far LOD releases you consider biggest success in terms of spread copies, and which one is most ground breaking in your opinion?

I`m not sure, but I would say that the GOAT SEMEN/LEVIFER Split 7``EP and the ZYGOATSIS 7``EP are both records that sold fast and got the best responses. Some like ANAL VOMIT can be seen as ground-breaking as you put it, as they were unknown and now they are respected worldwide so I`am very proud of this!

How about language matters, have you ever had problems with unerstanding each other with any of your exotic releasedbands?

No, not at all, it`s true that sometimes some band members use ``broken English`` hahaha but I`m used to it and it is absolutely not a problem for me. Also I can speak Spanish so it helps me a lot as it`s spoken in the whole Latin America except Brazil (I can read and understand Portuguese by the way, but I can't speak it fluently, I would like to learn more but I have no time for that unfortunately). And with all non-French and non-Spanish speaking countries, I use English, simple as that! I love languages so I like talking and writing in different ones!

From the profile of LOD, I suppose ``Global Metal``" movie was a huge impact for you. What do you think about it? Do you think it is more effective in promoting Metal culture in exotic countries, or rather introduce these countries scene to the so called western world?

Ah, well, it didn`t have such a huge impact on me actually. I discovered it in it`s full extent this year, and before that I just saw some videos on YouTube hehe... There are awesome images and interviews in the movie, it`s true, and I respect Sam Dunn and Scot McFayden as directors, moreover they did ``FLIGHT 666`` which is so fantastic, IRON MAIDEN being one of my favourite bands ever! But ``GLOBAL METAL`` has been released in 2008 and they act as if scenes were emerging in some countries while it`s very old and without being arrogant, I can say I was aware of all that many, many years before them! I mean, Butchered of ARALLU is an old Brother of mine (I support them since the first album), Wang of AREA DEATH and the guys of RITUAL DAY are mates for a long time, I am in touch with Sahil of DEMONIC RESURRECTION, I discovered TANG DYNASTY thanx to a Chinese friend 10 years ago, etc... I am responsible for having released the first vinyl records ever by a Metal band from : China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, some bands from Africa and Middle East, etc... So it`s a pity they didn`t investigate that much in the underground. Some fans from Iran were interviewed which is great, but there are many bands out there, an English friend met them without any problem during holidays so it`s sad they didn`t go there as they planned first. Also there are too many interviews with ``famous``" people, like Max Cavalera, Tom Araya or Marty Friedman, it would have been better to keep that short and interview more underground bands, but I understand their reasons, as the film must also be a commercial success and to fill it with underground people wouldn`t sell. But come on, in Japan LOUDNESS are not even mentioned (though they were very big and not underground), same with SABBAT, the cultest Black Metal band existing since 1984! What about DYING EMBRACE in India, the first extreme"Metal band playing Death Metal inspired by AUTOPSY and BLACK SABBATH, these guys are the oldest metalheads in India, the godfathers of the Indian scene! As for Latin America, only Brazil is mentioned. But OK, it`s hard to sum everything up in 1h30... So I hope the guys will make ``GLOBAL METAL`` #2, then #3, and more haha! In that case they should ask me and I could bring them to great places! Look, with my band MANZER we will be the first Metal band from abroad playing in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka! They should shoot these events hehe... Well, just kidding, we pay everything by ourselves, we don`t do this for glory but because we want to spread the Metal plague, play with friends and discover fascinating cultures. By the way it is also a good point in ``GLOBAL METAL``" that they speak about local cultures. It`s very important and it is linked to your second question. OK, I`m very talkative now haha, so back to your question: I don`t think it promotes Metal culture in ``exotic``"(I hate this word) countries, as you put it it`s more to show to ``westerners`` that there are Metal scenes everywhere. But I think most people watched this movie as curious fans, like ``waow I can`t believe that there is Metal in this or that country``, and that`s all. I distribute stuffs from all the scenes mentioned for almost 10 years and after the release of ``GLOBAL METAL``, people didn`t get crazy, ordering many stuffs from me hehe... Most people into this movie are into ``mainstream`` Metal, I`m sure of this. But it's still interesting to see it as I said, as the images are great and few people get interested in such scenes, though a lot of work still has to be made because these scenes are much stronger than what people think. It`s much more than just a bunch of poor Third World people trying to play Metal just to be cool like western bands, they have a strong history and passion. To end with this question, on a very personal point of view, I must admit that sometimes they show Metal as a hippie movement, you know, with all this respect towards religions (fukk all religions, they must stay out of Metal!!!), and saying we all belong to the same tribe (peace and love bullshit!!!). Well, in reality it`s far from being so idyllic hehe, but OK, once again this movie had to remain quite mainstream otherwise nobody would be interested.

Can you remember when you was most suprised, when heard some band, and you thought like: ``Damn, did not expected such a music from this palce of earth?

Actually, no! Not that I got bored, haha, I still have the same interest and flame burning inside of me since the beginning! But I created the label because I knew there were killer Metal bands everywhere, and I mean everywhere! It`s just that some scenes are more unknown than others, but you can always find maniaks fighting in the name of Metal, deep in the shadows... Though I must admit that recently I was very impressed to meet Vickonomy from VALE OF AMONITION, a great band from Uganda! He has the true Metal spirit, much more than many ``westerners``.

Do you get any feedback from fans from the countries bands you release, do they have sort of scene there?

Yeah sure, many fans are so respectful towards my releases! As I said, I`m the first to have released vinyl records from some countries, and some fans praise this as something historical and cult! This is very important to me, and I do it for the Metal cause, not for fame or anything. But I always feel proud when I get congratulations, of course! It is also a part of the fuel that leads me to fight and keep up with my label!!!

Why did you decided to limit LOD releases to vinyl format only? Wouldn`t it be easier to spread the word in cd form as well?

As stated in the first question, LEGION OF DEATH has a specific concept since the beginning. Contrary to some labels betraying their original goals, I decided to keep the idea just as it was right from the start, and to support the best Metal format ever : vinyl! Of course the other formats are great too, but vinyl is the best and it has more impact I think because they are like jewels for collectors. It helps the bands a lot to find other deals, with other labels, and I believe it is also the aim of a Metal label. Of course I am not against spreading CDs but that`s one of the reason why I also created ARMEE DE LA MORT Records.

Well you prefer word obscure above exotic, when it comes to countries you pick bands for LOD. But does it mean, distance, cultural difference or lack of worlwide recognition for their metal scene?

"Exotic" is very pejorative in my opinion. It is like saying that the western world represents "normality" and thus gives you the right to judge all other cultures, especially seeing them as inferior, and this is absurd. I'm interested in all the things you mentioned to support a band, indeed, and I don't need to call them "exotic".

I’m curious your opinion on French Black Metal scene. As I consider this mainly for as very straight ideologically or for their ground breaking attitude towards black music. Do you see it similar way?

No, I see it like a big circus. It has never really been serious and there hasn't been any unity whatsoever. My opinion is that there are very good Black Metal bands in some French regions, and they deserve support because in general the valuable ones are not supported. When talking about Black Metal with foreign comrades, they usually mention the most trendy ones (mainly from Paris). With ARMEE DE LA MORT Records I signed some valuable Black Metal bands, and I may release more in the future. The idea is just like LEGION OF DEATH : to support underrated Metal warriors against the trends cancering the scene in France. Most Black Metal bands in France are religious/christian, depressive/suicidal, nazi, Scandinavian clones, avant-garde open minded shit, whatever... They are not "straight ideologically", they are just stupid, blinded, and they are "ground breaking" because they are trendy. I do my best to support the ones keeping the ancient traditional values of Black Metal alive.

Where do you spread your releases more, to France or abroad, as it comes to both your ventures?

I must admit that since I created my webshop, France is the first country where my stuffs are spread. This is suprising but in a positive way, because something like 2 or 3 years ago, and since I created the label, French people were far from being the most interested ones in what I do haha, maybe the worst! You know, I don't release "well known" bands hehe... Then I can mention Japan and Germany. A lot of supportive maniaks out there! But of course I spread my releases everywhere on this fukking planet.

You have a huge amount of tape releases in your distro, do you recognize some interest increase for this format last years? Do you believe this is something more than just part of overall old skull death metal scene ressurestion?

The interest towards tape comes and go, just like vinyl. I can't complain about that, it's great if some people finally realize that tape is a great format, useful and cheap. We can't call this a trend as long as it is healthy for this format. I noticed that a lot of labels are popping up claiming to release tapes mainly. Why not, but it's a bit overcrowded I think, everybody wants to have a "hobby label" and sometimes they release ultra-limited releases that they don't trade or don't even sell at wholesale prices, which is a totally anti-underground behaviour. But all in all it's good that maniaks buy tapes, it's a tradition that I want to keep alive, like all Metal traditions! The interest in tapes may fade soon though, and then appear again, just as I said : it comes and go, but real maniaks will forever support this format, they don't even care to know how is the level of interest in it, tapes have always been a part of the underground. Oh and by the way : DEMO = TAPE! Demo CDr's suck!!!

Being in business for almost ten years now (and even before, as a fan, I suppose), do you notice your attitude towards, let`s call it underground metal movement, has changed in any way? What part of your every day life you sacrifice to label/distro ativities? How about other fields of activites? You play also in black metal band Manzer, right?

I am clearly a close minded person and proud of it so I don't think my attitude changed. I am now trying to run a small company with my label so I work 24h/24 and 7d/7 on my label for more than 2 years now. A Metal Shop will open in my house very soon so I hope to see you there hehe! Other fields of activities? No, Metal all the fukking way hehe! Yeah, MANZER became my main band now, we have a lot of projects planned, like split 7"EP's with ABIGAIL and GODSLAYING HELLBLAST, some cover songs on tribute LP's, a live tape, a small tour in Asia in november, etc... Can you first introduce band in a few words and say somethng about members.

The Ominous Crucifix emerges in the 2007, year of this black omens era. Two revels of Christian faith were recruiting members to preach savagely their own true (Executioner & Crucifier). Their invocations were answered by an old and well known man that lived in hate (Lord Dweller), dedicated to the underworld, member of bands that worship death (Necroccultus and Sargatanas) he take the same way so his friend, the Omega Tyrant, warrior of thousand battles always willing to take the bass to exterminate melodies of joy. Four pillars were exposed finally to the shadows of the moon, so finally to complete the five points; Mercury raised high over the skies and sent his own son, The Mercurial Herald to speak for them with tongue of fire.

You claim among others Necrophobic, Paradise Lost, DarkThrone, Morbid Angel, Immolation, Incantation, Goreaphobia, Necros Christos, Lie in Ruins as your inspirations. Which of them is most important you Ominous Crucifix?

Personally, the old Necrophobic and Paradise Lost was my main reason to betray my family believes. I think that for the band all those bands are elements for our formula.

I can see you worship heavy/brutal Death Metal way than fast/technical form of it. Anyway, do you accept other forms of Extreme Metal?

Sure! Death Metal has so many genres and classifications now days. However there always times that so passionate creativity emerges so sublime that is almost impossible not to pay attention, no matter if is Brutal, Black or Thrash Speed Metal. However, FUCK ! the Porno Grind Metal assholes.

Also, what is your opinion about some of these bands style changes across years. Do you give a listen to the new recordings from bands, that wimped out over years putting on shitty records?

Yeah some of my faves just fucked their essence!
I’m not against the musical maturity; however some of the bands just lost their way trying to find the trident of sublime musical composition. The 90’s were so splendid, and there were so many bands emerging with so different sound and ideas, it was a glorious time, suddenly the best death metal bands were willing to change their style to look and sound like other new ones, or just evolved musically to try to be the best players of solos on earth, living for the music that represent big money.

Before ep you had tape split with Soul Eater, are these recording taken from your demo?

Yes, SoulEater is a teenager Death Thrash band. They were starting just like us; we just thought that make something together would be great thing for our local scene.

What do you think about old fasioned Death Metal releases, like paper zines / tape demos / xeroxed inlays, it looks like they are getting back again?

It is fucking great man!
I just received the Crypts of Eternity and the Mystical Music zines next with four editions of the Trash Attack zine. Those zines make me have a great moment on weekend enjoying a cold beer. Also I’m a great fanatic of new bands emerging from whole over the globe, playing old Death Metal in the way that should be. No matter if they published their music on gaySpace or if they are younger than me or coming from unknown countries. Let’s stop that crap of pretending be so evil for this generations and questioning the way how death metal should be promoted or the way how it should be play it (Old Skull Death Metal) I’m 35 man and the near next 10 years will be entirely a new scene of kids doing their best and supporting the scene by themselves, we … ha, ha, ha we will be so worry about our medical condition and the most easy and comfortable way for surviving.

I believe your lirycs are mainly anti-christian and blasphemies, but I'm particularly interestes in "A Savior for me". Can you say in few words what is it about?

Hope you like that song, “A savior for me” is the second song we made and it’s a doom death metal song. It has the feeling of a deception condition by someone that spent almost whole life living in lies and fears inherited by traditional believes, looking for a paternal face to heal the wounds of a miserable young existence, pretending that a savior will descend from the skies to save him from his misery. Finally when dead touch his old hands; he finally claims in absolute deception “I WAS BLIND TO SEE” I avoided passion and received pain.

In general, what is Ominous Crucifix lirical inspiration? Have you thought about using some prechristian ancient Mexican culture elements?

I`m not really interested in Mexican Culture, I’m not a patriot ... We are rebels against all forms of dogmatic slavery.
Our lyrics don’t come from tales; they are alive because they talk about real events and real feelings, real afflictions.
Mexico is a 99 % catholic country, can you image how difficult is to open the eyes and be against your family believes and practices. Fucking false faith, Fucking Church!. Here in Mexico priests earn more money that a real hard worker man that have a family. They deceive all innocent lambs to make money and live well. That’s why they build a fucking church on every corner of every city.

Can you cay few words about your live performances so far? And what band would be your wish to play with?

We really don’t have much gigs, our performance is a very common death metal band profile (leather ,black levis , spikes, boots ... whatever).
Arggg !! there are so much bands I would like to play with… too difficult to make a choice.

It seems like Morbid Kult put quite effort release of your ep and it is very professional. How do you like job they made, and how did you come to work with them?

I can just only be very grateful with CUAXO and his MORBID KULT RECORDS. He’s spreading our work along the entire world. CUAXO is an ex-Morbosidad and he listened to our shit on our MySpace, later all is history, we still are very happy with the results.

Also, what is your attitude for recording work - do you put much effort to make your songs sound well or give it rather to record anger and hate explosions in raw form?

We all are dedicated almost 90 percent to our careers and families, our songs production is very limited through the year, so YES we are trying to do our best on every song we make.

What are your plans about next release, what about full lenght?

We really, really like to do some splits on vinyl format so if some band or record is interested please get in contact with us. Also we have some offers for a Full length but it would take almost a year and a half to complete an 8 tracks or 40 min Length production.

From what I know, maniax in Mexico are very serious about their attitude and respect towards metal, do you agree? What about support you get from your country mates?

Mexico is a let’s say … common scene … at the capital, D.F.; there is a massive scene of death metal heads and bands of all genres. Yes, most of them take very serious his musical tastes, some of them are so serious that they want to be so exclusive hearing a very unknown underground limited 10 copies demos of shit. We have found a very limited support from our country mates, Ominous Crucifix is almost unknown to our own land. Support has been always come from foreigners, I thing we are not so good for the Mexican scene. Let’s see what happen later…

Can you say about local scene in your area? Maybe reccomend some newcoming band?

Our local and national scene is growing fast, I like that !, we have bands as Zombiefication, Majestic Downfall and Profanator (not so new) just like us, trying to emerge and do an acceptable work. There are some more new bands out there, let’s give them some chance to exploit.

First of all - congratulations on your demo - massive 7 songs of varied Death Metal with many influences. Are you satisfied with the result, you`ve achieved?

Hell-o from Hamburg. Thank you very much for your support. We really appreciate it. Our first demo `Arms Of Armageddon` has become as strong and non-compromising as we wanted it to be. Good old groovy Death Metal of the 90's spiced with some modern and melodic parts.

One can say Buried In Black is still a searching band - you have both: Bolt Thrower - like majestic songs, like `My Empyre` as well as straightforward and violent `Below`. Is it caused by sharing songwriting activities among members with distinct views of Death Metal?

Relating to a couple of songs it’s goddamn boring to write or to hear the same one again and again. You can say that BURIED IN BLACK profits from the fact that each member has a different musical background. From Swedish Death Metal to New Metal all shades of Metal are in the mix. No idea what for we should give up our essential differences. We always put our strengths together.

What are the band member’s musical preferences?

It doesn’t change from day to day, but depends on our mood. There are several masterpieces that inspire us on and off. For example Emtombed`s `Wolverine Blues`, Pantara`s `Vulgar Display Of Power`, Hatebreed`s `Supremacy`, Bolt Thrower`s `For Victor` and Meshuggah`s `Destroy Erase Improve`. Just to name a few…

Another point that makes me see as `being in between` band is fact you mixing pure Death Metal passages with metalcore/deathcore. What is the audience you meet at your live shows? Are they more metalcore fans or die hard Death Metal supporters?

Both elements belong to BURIED IN BLACK. We hold the view that not everything new should be damned. The old school tune paired with some vocals of core or black origin is a perfect match – sometimes. All things considered we are Death Metal. Our sound fits with nearly every kind of extreme Metal. It’s not important for us which scene of our fan-base is growing faster. The main thing is that the audience goes home as BURIED IN BLACK fans afterwards. But – in order to guard misunderstandings – NS-fools were, are and will never be welcome!

Which song you played live was best acclaimed by audience? And what about your past and future live activities?

Good question… Primary our two “straightforwards” (`Below` and `Pure`) have been the real killers, but since we’ve uploaded and presented all songs of `Arms Of Armageddon` the focus switch to the more dodgy songs like `Cry For Vengeance` and `My Empyre`. My fave is the title-track, a hymn like a panzer armed with tons of darkness. Don’t lose time! Don’t miss our next live-shows:

The songs you put to your demo could be as well pressed as the debut album, this is my opinion. Aren't you confident enough of these tunes, so that you decided to release them as demo?

We`ve recorded seven songs. With all due respect, thirty minutes music ain’t enough for a debut. I think that especially HC- and grind-recordings should have more playing time to keep the fair-play between artist and fan alive. We spread `Arm Of Armageddon` just for promotional use to show the world that we’re able and willing to kick ass. Call it understatement or whatever you want… If we`ll get the chance to record a complete album one day, it will satisfy your demand.

Do you have full length in plans? How about stuff for it? Are you going re-record some of demo tracks?

Three new, still unreleased songs are written so far. It would be great to put them on a full length album. We`ll do our best. All I can say is that the time will tell.

Well, at least your logo is pure Death Metal, no metalcore influences here, haha. Could't be different, it is
Christophe Szpajdel`s work, right? I'm curious how did you come together. Did you send him some suggestions on how logo should look like or left it up to his view?

Ben only told him that it should be Death-Metal-like and readable. I have the highest respect for his ability. He has drawn a perfect logo for us – we`ll never forget his effort.

Strong side of your songs is the vocal side. It is very varied, no monothonic at all! Jumps very smoothly from deep growls (like Opeth's Mike), guttural roars (ala Gorefest Jan Christ) to despair scream's (like Disbelief's Karsten). Is it really done by one guy, haha?

Thanks! I feel honoured to get compared with these awesome vocalists. Growls, shouts and screams – nothing special but the result of several years of learning by doing. It`s funny that you mentioned Jagger. We know each other personally. He`s a very friendly guy without airs and graces. I hope to meet him or to share stage with Disbelief soon.

I`m curious on your opinion on German Death Metal scene. In my opinion you had there one really big band, Morgoth that is. Except that a few smaller names like Fleshcrawl, Necrophagist. Still, it seems other Metal genres are more popular in Germany, don't you think?

Death Metal ain`t modern. Actually all kinds of core-music are hyped as the ne plus ultra in Germany. Many Metal-kids are wearing weird-coloured shirts. Unfortunately they don`t know the groundbreaking releases. I`ve listened to Morgoth’s Odium and Atrocity`s Todessehnsucht in the age of fourteen. The last-mentioned I`ve seen live performed at Wacken Open Air in the early 90s. The first concert I`ve visited was an indoor festival with Obituary, Entombed, Crowbar, Strapping Young Lad and Samael. Now I`m thirty years old. It`s always a pleasure to escape from the fast moving time and to rock with BURIED IN BLACK.

There were a few loud reunions last years. Wouldn`t you dream of Morgoth reunion? If it ever happened, which of their releases should they take stuff from for their live shows?

Reunions aren`t my cup of tea. I prefer to keep the best moments in mind instead of listening to `new` stuff from old heroes that is in 99,9% not worth the pleasant anticipation.

Oba elementy są częścią BURIED IN BLACK. Uważamy, że nie wszystko, co nowe musi być wyklęte. Jednak mając to wszystko na uwadze - wciąż jesteśmy grupą Death Metal, choć brzmienie może kojażyć się z innymi odłamami ekstremalnego metalu i nie ma dla nas znaczenia z której sceny będziemy więcej fanów. Dobre pytanie... Utwory, które zamieściliście na demo, mogły by według mnie równie dobrze znaleźć się na pełnej płycie. Czy nie byliście ich dość pewni i stąd decyzja o wydaniu ich jako demo? Czy rozprowadzacie je na koncertach, macie też inny merch?

Nagraliśmy siedem utworów, i z całym szacunkiem, ale 30 minut muzyki to jednak nie dość na debiut. Zwłaszcza wydawnictwa HC i grind powinny zawierać dość materiału, aby było to uczciwe w stosunku do fanów. Rozprowadzamy `Arm Of Armageddon` jako promo, by pokazać światu, że możemy poważnie skopać tyłki. Można powiedzieć, że nie pokazujemy jeszcze na tym nmateriale wszystkiego, ale kiedy będziemy mieli okazję wydać płytę, z pewnością spełni wasze oczekiwania.

Zatem myślicie o dużej płycie, co się na niej znajdzie? Czy nagracie na nowo utwory z demo?

Jak na razie mamy trzy nowe utwory, zapewne znajdą się na płycie. Postaramy się ją wzda, na razie mogę tylko powiedzieć, że czas pokaże.

Przynajmniej logo macie czysto death metalowe, bez wpływów metalcore, haha. Nie mogło być inaczej, w końcu to Christophe Szpajdel. Podsyłaliście mu sugestie odnośnie projektu, czy pozostawiliście to jego inwencji.

Jedyne co Ben mu przekazał, to to, że ma być Death Metalowe i czytelne. Jestem pełen najwyższego uznania dla jego ręki. Zrobił dla nas doskonałą robotę - jestesmy mu wdzięczni za poświęcony wysiłek.

Silną stroną waszych utworów jest strona wokalna, bardzo urozmaicona. Gładko przechodzisz od głębokiego growlu (przypominającego Mike'a z Opeth), ryki z głębi trzewi (ala Jen Chris z Gorefest) do desperackich wrzasków (podobnych do Karstena z Disbelief). Czy to wszystko to naprawdę jedna osoba?

Dzięki! To dla mnie zaszczyt być porównanym to tych znakomitych wokalistów. Niby tylko growle, wrzaski i krzyki - ale to rezultat siedmiu lat nauki przez ćwiczenie. Zabawne, że wspomniałeś Jaggera. Znamy się doskonale, bardzo sympatyczny gość, bez fochów i wywyższania się. Mam nadzieję że będziemy wkrótce dzielić scenę z Disbelief.

Jestem ciekawy twojej opinii o niemieckiej scenie Death Metal. Uważam, że mieliście jeden naprawdę wielki band, czyli Morgoth. Po za tym kilka mniejszych nazw, jak Fleshcrawl, Necrophagist. Wydaje się jednak, że inne odłamy metalu są w Niemczech bardziej popularne.

Death Metal nie jest w modzie. Obecnie w Niemczech zdecydowanie na topie są wszelkie rodzaje core. Wiele dzieciaków ubiera się w dziwne, kolorowe koszulki i niestety nie znają przełomowych wydawnictw gatunku. Ja w wieku 14 lat słuchałem `Odium` Morgoth i `Todessehnsucht` Atrocity. Tych drugich oglądałem na żywo w Wacken na poczatku lat 90. Pierwszy mój koncert to był festival z Obituary, Entombed, Crowbar, Strapping Young Lad i Samael. Teraz mam 30 lat, a BURIED IN BLACK jest moją ucieczką do lat młodości.

Głośno ostatnio zrobiło się z powodu licznych reaktywacji. Nie marzył być o powrocie Morgoth? Jak uważasz, z której ich utwory powinni grać na koncertach?

Nie jestem wielbicielem tego typu reaktywacji. Wolę wracać do lat największej chwały tych zespołów, niż słuchać `nowych` materiałów starych mistrzów, w 99,9% przypadków nie wartych lat oczekiwania.

EULOGY IS ONE OF THESE PROMISING BANDS, THAT WERE NOT ENOUGH LUCKY TO GET AS BIG AS THEIR FELLOWS FROM TAMPA IN BEST TIME FOR DEATH METAL, EARLY NINETEES. NOR THEY DID GET ENOUGH CULT BAND, LIKE SAY GOREAPHOBIA. DESPITE THESE INCONVIENIENCES, JARRETT DID NOT DISARM. NOW, WITH NEW LINEUP, STRONGER THAN EVER HE ONCE AGAIN CHALLENGES THE FLORIDA DEATH METAL THRONE. HI THERE JARRETT, HOW WAS YOUR DAY?

Not to bad. I worked all day, I work as an engineer and tour and work in a mastering studio mixing and mastering records. I work with the guy who mastered Necrophagists first record.

IT WAS QUITE A BREAK IN EULOGY ACTIVITIES SINCE OLD DAYS. WHAT WAS IT CAUSED WITH, AND WHAT WERE YOUR CONTACTS WITH DEATH METAL SCENE ALL THESE YEARS?

Well, I guess thats a 2 part question. Part one what caused it. Being homeless, the scene just getting stale and everything sounding alike and so many shitty bands getting record deals and the good ones putting out shitty records. Defiantly differences of opinion about what needed to be done musically. I was very into speed and just being different. Others were of the opinion that I was going to fast that I needed to make it more accesable. I always think thats funny as hell considering what came next in the rise of black metal and more technical wave of grind core. Eventually I just decided that I wanted to engineer and give it a rest. I think for a while there I got very mellow also and I think you need a certain fury to write and play and contribute something dark and vicious and genuine... when those feelings calm down or subside I think you shoud stop as opposed to releasing or writing a bunch of bullshit generic filler and calling it death metal... just my opinion.
My ties to the scene over the years... well lets just say that alot of my friends were very well known and of course we always kept in touch. I would of course go out and see them play or whatever. I mastered `The Age of Miracles has passed` for Lecherous Nocturne, I mastered the Harkonin Records, ahhhhm I am the American FOH (sound guy) for 1349. I did a run this winter with Suffocation and mixed the mighty Goatwhore along with Thy Will Be Done. I mixed Suffocation for Fuel TV, I tracked some of the last Ressurection album... Just a few things here and there. Like I said obviously playing and being part of the Tampa scene I had alot of friends in Bands who did very well and we stayed friends...

ARE YOU IN TOUCH WITH GUYS FROM EARLY LINE UP?

Off and on. Clayton and I are still very good friends. He is the drummer for Harkonin from ST Louis. I am actually mixing the new Harkonin album now. I don`t talk to the rest of the guys much. Not for any reason really just differant paths.

WHY ARE YOU STILL INTO DEATH METAL? THERE WOULD BE SO MANY NEW/MODERN GENRES IN EXTREME MUSICK TO PICK FROM?

That is a good question. I wouldn`t pigeon hole myself into saying that I`m into any one kind of music. I like all kinds of things. Alot of things I`m sure your readers would be like `What!!!!!!?????` but that`s my deal. I like the Death metal, I have always liked. I am very ancient and old school in that way... I should say though that I think Lecherous Nocturne are one of the most bad ass bands ever and I totally love what those guys are doing. Into Death Metal... When I started writing the music for my band Eulogy there was not really a concious decision to be metal. I was a total Punk Rock dude in the 80`s I was just into fury and being berzerk. I was really into the Accused. From there it took me to Kreator. It was a very gradual natural progression, I guess I`m into death metal at least what I write because it`s natural to me... I don`t know. Like I said I got really bored with the whole scene for a while and I really just stuck to listening to what I had always listened to-Frost, Voivod, Possesed, At the Gates, Morbid Angel, Ripping Corpse, Entombed, Acid Bath, Human Remains, Neurosis, but also alot of other things... Especially like Nebula, Fu manchu, High on Fire, Sleep, Kyuss, alot of older music 70s rock.

NOW LET`S GET INTO CURRENT BANDS ACTIVITIES. YOU CAN HARDLY SAY IT`S REUNION, SINCE LINE-UP NOWADAYS IS DIFFERENT, DOESN`T IT? HOW DID YOU COME TOGETHER WITH ROB, MIKE AND TONY TO REFORM A BAND?

My initial intention was to have a reunion of my original band. Didn`t work out. People had gone places in thier lives that prevented them from being a part of it. Rob was interested because I guess the guys in Cannibal always supported us and were into what we were doing, Tony has been a friend for a long time as well and to me filling Clayton gore`s shoes was a tall order, and I`m not talking about the speed or the blasting or the doubles or the dumb shit people get so obbsessed with and loose sight of PLAYING and ORIGINALITY. Clayton was a very original styled drummer and we clicked musically very well... I was unsure I would be able to even come close to finding someone technically gifted and that I connected with on that level. I got lucky Tony and I had been friends for a long time and we jammed and checked it out and it worked and it was the way to go. Mike P was suggested to me by a few people and I contacted him and he was down and... Well there you go.

WHO IS MAILNY RESPONSIBLE FOR SONGWRITING AND HAW CAN YOU COMPARE OLD EULOGY WITH NOWADAYS INCARNATION OF IT?

The Songwriting has always primarily been me, I think the riffing and the note progressions and the feel is very similar to what I have always done. I think of course the new stuff is better written song wise and of course a little more fulltilt but that all came about with me and a drum machine doing demos. There was no limit to what I could get the machine to do so I wrote around whatever I thought would work.

YOU HAVE QUITE BADASS LINE UP IN EULOGY BUT GUYS ARE QUITE BUSY WITH THEIR OTHER BANDS. WON`T IT BE A OBSTACLE FOR EULOGY DEVELOPMENT, ALSO IN TERMS OF LIVE PERFORMANCES?

Yes the guys are all busy and so am I with engineering and touring. However we will just have to see what happens. If there is an interest in seeing the band live or us putting out an album I am sure we will figure it out. Of course I would like to see it happen but I knew when I asked these guys to play that it would be hard... Some things are not about the end it`s about the means.. its the journey. I would love to tour and play live and we probably will.

YOU HAVE RECORDED 3 TRACKS. DO YOU SPREAD THEM IN ANY HARD-COPY WAY EXPECT MYSPACE. ALSO ARE THEY GOING TO BE OFFICIALLY RELEASED? BY WHOM AND WHEN?

As of right now those songs are not even mixed. What is up on the site are rough mixes just to see if anyone was listening. I don`t have an answer I`m sure when we are out on tour (Tony and Myself with 1349 in april we will talk about it and possibly make some decisions) so the songs are not out or released at all yet.

CAN WE EXPECT FULL LENGHT FORM EULOGY? DO YOU HAVE MORE STUFF WRITTEN? ARE SOME OF OLD SONGS GOING TO BE USED?

That is the Idea. I actually wrote 11 songs total. When I decided to open this up again I sat down for about 3 months and just wrote. I told you above I had to wait until the fury returned and it did so I wrote it. We may play some of the old stuff but as you said aside from me having written for both incarnations it really is a differant band... Maybe though.

SOME IN 1994 WHEN I WAS MAKING INTIE WITH LEE OF MONSTROSITY AND ASKED HIM FOR SOME NEWCOMING BANDS FROM HIS AREA, HE WAS LIKE `EULOGY IS REALLY RECCOMENDABLE!`. WHAT WAS YOUR FEELINGS THEN, YOUR EXPECTATIONS ON THE BAND AND ARE THEY THE SAME?

I was alot younger then of course and really hopeful and driven to do whatever it took and as I said before I just decided that I was in the minority as far as being willing to be homeless or to get in the van and starve or whatever and to play anywhere... I knew thats what it would take. Looking back I am happy we never got a proper record deal like so many around us... I think the labels were just signing anyone and then not really giving it the push and truthfully it was all begining to sound alike down here with a few exceptions. I always thought Monstrosity were a great band. I think in those days my head was a bit clouded with the idea of `making it` or whatever you would call it... Now I just don`t give a shit. I strictly write what I want to hear. If everyone or anyone else likes it cool, Thank you and I appreciate it... As for the expectations... I expect to write cool songs and jam with my friends and put it out and hope some people dig it but ultimatly I write it and play it for me....

ALSO DID YOU HAVE THE FEELING OF BEING IN THE CENTRE OF DEATH METAL MAELSTORM, AS OF POSITION OF FLORIDA IN DEATH METAL SCENE?

I was of course aware of it all. But I`m not the kind of person who really focuses on how the people looking in are seeing it. I was in Tampa where I lived playing in a band. Enjoying hanging out with alot of other great bands. I knew it was over saturated, I knew my band were out of our minds, I knew that there were stupid local politics going on just like in any other thing and I knew that we were supposedly a hot spot. However I liked alot of music that didn`t have anything to do with Florida: Immolation, early Incantation, Entombed, Carcass, At the Gates to name a few, so the fact that we were here was kind of just whatever. Of course now I hear years later about what other parts of the country were like and I feel lucky that we had the scene we had but at the time I was not really thinking along those lines.

Well like I said I am hoping to getting around to mixing the demo and I am going on tour with 1349, Skeleton Witch and Lecherous Nocturne running sound supporting Cannibal Corpse in April. Hopefully we will make some decisions and a plan for the band this summer. I would like to complete the album and have it released with some decent distribution and to tour. Last words... You are in the middle of recording debut album, aren`t you? Where are you recording? How is work going?

Yeah that is correct.. I`ve started recording the lead guitars 2/3-2010. Our session drummer Fredrik Widigs from Stockholm has recorded the drums in his studio until now so finally we can begin this recording. All the guitars and vocals we are recording in my own homestudio that is built in my apartment.. Things are going great so far so I’am really exited about for the result.

You decided to pick 9 songs from your two demos for your full length is that right? Which are these songs? And what was the key for selection - was it your own sense or you were influenced by suggestions and reviews?

Yeah.. right again. Hehe well.. we have picked those songs that we thought were the best so there are no any special key for our choices. So these are just our own favorites, that will be recorded plus a new track that I made around-93 that now will see the light for the first time in a more pro recording. The tracklist is not official yet so I can’t give you the titles yet :)

What is current Entrails line up? Is it going to be constant? Also is it possible to see Entrails live someday?

Well.. Entrails line up now is Me (Jimmy) on Lead guitar and second guitarguy - Mathias Nilsson and this great Growler Jocke Svensson that also will have the job as bassplayer if we do shows in the future. The drummer seat is vacant for the moment, but we will use help from a special guest in shows.

Is it like"`Reborn` tracks are Entrails early 90s songs and `Human decay` are new ones? Can you say that new songs are different in any way from old (I have my opinion on that, but would love to know yours)?

No man.. all songs we have made so far are from the time between 91-and 94. Well if you`re asking about my songs - I will always have the old spirit in making songs, but if you mean other bands music I would say it was better in the early days when those riffs were made.. today everyone have to play so fucking technical and that is not brutal at all...

Where comes these stunning melodies from? This solo on `Euthanasia` is amazing!

Hehe.. well we were a band in the 90`s and that guy that played the second guitar at that time was much better than me to do solos, so he did that solo from the beginning and now when I had to play that solo by myself I couldnt do it very well, so I stole some tones that I could manage to find and had to come up with new stuff too.. And for the melodies on the other solos I like melodic solos and David in Dismember does that in a amazing way.. So taking my own thoughts mixed with others ideas will sometimes result in pretty neat solos.

As your bio states: `we went to a studio and recorded a few songs, but quality became bad, so there was never any demo made at that time`. I bielieve it`s about sound quality, not the songs themselves, huh? Do you have many recordings left from past years?

Yeah.. the soundquality was the biggest reason.. these songs were great and all that but living far away from a bigger town and trying to get a label with some people in the band that didn`t really know what they wanted to do.. And therefore there were no money to pay any engineer to help us in the studio so the result were bad everytime we tried to record something because we had to do everything by our selves.. I`ve got some taperecordings left that I use to bring the songs back to life again..

What are your expectations on your upcoming full length, I mean death metal scene nowadays is quite different than when you started as Entrails?

Well.. of course I hope some people would like it and buy it. Hehe.. and of course we hope it will sell good so we can do more albums in the future. We don’t follow the trend of todays death metal.. we play oldschool and we are good at it :) so nowadays scene doesn`t bother us at all.

And how do you consider growing strength of old sound death metal we have for couple of years now?

It seems the growing is going to be pretty good.. and I hope it will stay that way and a new wave of the old type of death metal will rise again..

What is your favourite book and why it is `Svensk Dods Metall`, haha? How do you think, was this book an impulse for renaisance of Sweddish sound?

Ha ha.. I havent red that book yet.. I am not a fan of reading books... So I can`t really answer that question now.

Your view of death metal is strongly inspired by Dismember, do you agree? I`m curious about your opinion on Dismamber, Entombed, Unleashed, Grave of today? Also any other early death metal bands are important to you?

Yeah I agree hehe. But there are more bands that are still cool. Well my opinion of those bands is that they were the best in the early 90`s and when they had that sunlight sound and a lot more darker riffs. I think it`s only Dismember that still going strong and doing their thing and have not changed much with their sound since the beginning. But all the bands are still fucking great and I`am still listeninug to them. Other bands from the past is Morgoth, Cancer, Morbid Angel, Obituary and of course the thrash kings Slayer and the cultband Hellhammer and the first black metal band Venom among a lot more bands that inspired me..

How would you encourage readers to buy your fullength? Is the release date set yet?

Well. I say this then: if you like Entombed, Dismember and all those Sunlight bands from the time of 1990-93 you should check this out. The fat Stockholm sound is back and the riffs are truly brutal and with a scary atmosphere and catchy and groovy style and the spirit from the early 90`s have risen again.. The whole shit is mixed and mastered by Dan Swano.. and he did a awesome work. The date for the release is not set but hopefully there will be something out in may/june or in worst case July. First Entrails effort after coming back from the dead brings near 50 minutes with 11 tracks of Sweddish sickness, positioned somewhere in triangle between Dismemeber, old-Cemetary, old-Edge of Sanity. Truly, I tell you this – these songs should be recorded and released as full lengh years then, and today Entrails woould be if not with the big four, then surely among Necrophobic, Centinex, Vimitory and few others. But these were not, and now available just as a demo, still reccomendable, despite all the years.

Last apetizer before debut lp release and it is direct turn towards Dismember/Entombed legacy. This has sound it needs, this has melodies that will remind you Matti and co best years, it has `Left Hand Path` keybourds, it has `Dreaming in Red` alike guitar passages. Not very oryginal, but who giva s fuck? 7 unholy tracks including intro and `Casket Garden` cover. Only 50 copies available directly from band, probably totally and ultimately sold out by now. Hi there Elder, in the beginning can you say what are you listening lately?

Hellish greetings maniacs! We’d like to thank for the opportunity, it is an honor to be on the pages of this zine!
Currently I'm listening to Bloodsoaked (U.S.), Volturyon (Sweden), Convent (Poland), Eternal (France), Queiron (Brazil) and others.

Can you introduce your band to the death metal maniacs. What are each members musical preferences?

Necrobscure started its operations in 2008. The members are me - Elder (guitar / vocals), Edenilson Reis (lead guitar), San (bass) and Michel Farias (drums). Our musical tastes are within the traditional Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal 80`s, Death Metal (late 80`s early 90`s) and some Black Metal bands.

You have demo. When did you record it? What is your opinion about this today?

Yeah, we have a demo `The End of Christian Hypocrisy`, it was released in August 2009. It is our first material and is distributed by the band here in Brazil and other countries, we are exchanging this for zines and undergrounds bands. Our lyrics are direct offense towards to Christianity and it’s dogmas that enslave the world of today. Those who raise the flag of hatred - join us!

I can hear you`re inspired with Immolation, also Morbid Angel and Death. What is your opinion about these bands? Which band do you prefer most?

Yes, Death, Morbid Angel and Immolation are great influences to the band. We respect the natural evolution of each band, but no doubt prefer the earlier works. Among them I prefer Death most.

How about opinions and reviews of your demo in Brasil and World.

The response for our first work exceeded our expectations, we are getting good feedback on the demo here in Brazil and other countries.

Have you released your demo as cdr or tape? How it can be bought? Does it sell well?

So far we have only released on CD-r, but we have plans to launch later this year in some copies Tape.

Can you say few words about your local scene – bands and zines.

In our city (Camaçari-Ba) there are only 10 or 15 deathbangers, there is no zine and we are the only active death metal band. We live near city of Salvador, it is 30 minutes away, and this in turn has a strong scene, many maniacs, zines and bands such as Head Hunter DC and Mystifier - world renowned in the underground since the late 80`s.

And what is your opinion about today death metal scene?

I think the world is dominated by the modern Death Metal and old Death Metal standards have been forgotten by most (especially media). But there are still a few, who really worship the true Death Metal, they are bearing in mind the ideological side of it. They are aware of what really matters in Death Metal, which cannot be avoided: exchange demos, tapes, LP's, zines, etc…

From what I know maniacs in Brasil are truly devoted to death metal scene, what can you say about this?

In Brazil, country of Death Metal masters, no doubt is the strongest scene and one of the poorest consumers in the world. Bands like Vulcano, Sarcofago, Sepultura and Dorsal Atlântica contributed enough to the Brazilian Death Metal and worldwide.

How about new songs, do you plan next releases? How about plans for 2010?

When the band is not touring, only releasing the demo and writing new music. We want to launch something new in 2010 and still do some shows.

Your new album was recorded in your home facilities, right? I believe this is partly meant to gain primitive, still massive and thick sound. I assume you have heavy laughts at bands who try to get old Death Metal sound in nowadays digital studios?

You nailed that one! It cracks me up when I see either all these "bands" using fake gear and digital sounds from modern equipment and claim "old school sounds" when it's not. The simple cheap gear available now is equal to studios 20 years ago, so you can get that sound you want if you invest in the right amps and drums. Most bands are too lazy to do things for themselves too.

Both your full lenghts has long, near 10 minutes anthems as encore. Becomes kind of "trade mark" of Decrepitaph full lenth, doesn't it?

I guess so, yeah. Even the first demo I did as a solo project had the longest track at the end. It's kind of a good spot to write something a little different, or more involved, or "epic" as it's been called, but not ruin the continuity of the album. If you hate the last song, just shut it off early. I'm not exactly sure if the third Decrepitaph full length will have that same type closing song, but don't be surprised if it does..

Do you plan to release vinyl version of `Beyond the cursed Tomb`?

I would like to see it on vinyl for sure, but so far we don't have any interest from labels wanting to do it. It's a possibility but I'm not sure if it would ever happen.

I`m curious about these intros in some Decrepitaph songs, sound like they were from real horror movies? Aren`t you affraid you will be pursuited by some greedy lawyer for copyrights? And who is that preacher lady (`satanic music and supressive lirycs`"quite hilaroius)

Yeah, they are all from real movies. It`all underground stuff so I doubt anyone would care we used samples from their movies anyway. The intro to the `Condemned Cathedral` CD and the intro to the track `Festering Messiah` on the new one are from `Black Roses`. A classic heavy metal horror flick.

Looks like pure Death Metal took over doom parts on new lp in comparison to debut (found calling your musick death/doom misguiding though).

I don`t think that`s true. There are basically the same amount of doomy parts as before. In fact, there might be a couple more on the new one. The main difference is a lot of them we played for a shorter time instead of basing whole songs around them. The only exception would be the title track, where the slow part is the basis for the song.

You're at Razorback (as of your full lengths at least). How did you come to work together? Are you happy with their work? I`m curious how do you divide tasks between band and label. Is that you just send them music and leave rest up to them or you want to influence on how your releases look like and stuff?

I became friends with Billy a few years ago because we both seemed to hate the same stuff, basically. We like a lot of the same old style bands and movies and when he heard the Decrepitaph promo we did in the fall of 07, he said he wanted to help us release an album and the rest is history! As far as dividing tasks, we just do what we can and hopefully the albums fall into the right hands. I do my best in promoting our stuff and I know Billy does too. He obviously has a lot of other bands to focus on as well, so I never let him be the only one spreading the word. We pretty much do our own art/design on all the releases and then send them off to Razorback to be pressed.

I`m wondering how it works in case of bands have releases as often as Decrepitaph does. Is it like `ok, now we are collecting new songs for full lenght, so no ep/splits for a while`. Is it different to compose songs for smaller releases than for full length?

Well, we write and record songs very fast, so if a good offer comes up, we can always do a song or two for a split. Usually the smaller release songs ARE done faster, but we still give it our all and make sure we`re proud of the finished product. To us, a full length CD/LP is the most important, but that doesn`t mean we can`t also spend some time on splits, EPs, and stuff like that.

Decrepitaph started as one man project, then it turned into trio. Do you consider it is you who have cruciual word in band or rather all members have equal status both in decisions making and about band and writing music?

We`re a two piece now, and I`m fine with that. Sinworm and myself work together really well and we`re always on the same page when it comes to what we want to accomplish. I write most of the material, but Sinworm also fine tunes parts and adds his own leads/solos, so it`s a total band effort. It wouldn`t sound the same without him, and if you`ve heard the original demo I did by myself, you will know this is true.

You have quite a bunch of releases, do you listen often to your own recordings? Which of them turns you on most (not counting new one, for now at least, haha)?

`I really don`t listen to my own stuff. When something new comes out, I will throw it on a few times, but not much more. Our first CD came out 14 months ago and I`ve maybe listened to it 3 times since then. I think my favorite would be the `Resurrected and Rotting` 7``"on Doomentia. I really like the sound we got on that EP and both those songs (although written in no time) are really solid and easily could have been on either of our CDs.

How about your live performances? What was the farest location you've been to? What was the best and the worst show you`ve played?

We`ve only played live twice, both times in Texas. So I guess furthest location would be Houston which is about 5 hours away. The show we played in Dallas sucked except we got to play with our friends in Father Befouled and Prosanctus Inferi, so that was cool. The Houston show with Master and Goreaphobia was a lot more successful and made us realize the Houston scene for real metal is MUCH better than Dallas.

Do you have any live or video release in plans?

Nope, nothing planned right now. I`d like to maybe throw together a really cheap video for a song on our new album, but it`s not a priority at all. Perhaps it will happen someday..

What and when was your first contact with death metal scene and when you realized that this is what you want to do in life? Do you think you are still as into dm scene in the beginnings and it will be the same in the future?

I got into metal around 1990 or so and I`ve been into it ever since. I`ve seen many old friends lose interest and abandon it over the years, but those people were obviously into it for the wrong reasons and the real metal scene doesn`t need people like that. I`m in this for life. Well, it's hard to be AS into it now as back then because 95% of new bands are total garbage. I don`t care about any of the things that this new crop of `brutal DM`"people care about. They miss the point completely. I imagine it`s only going to get worse over time. I guess the small spike in real DM over the past few years has been a good thing, but the majority of bands/fans are still not what metal is about.

Is death metal what play to your guest on when you barbecue with your firends? What other metal genres you accept?

It would usually be metal in general. All metal is cool by me with the exception of metalcore, one man fake goregrind, and anything relating to slam/brutal death. I love old Thrash, Black Metal, Real Grindcore (not what passes for it these days), Doom (that doesn`t rip off Sabbath/Candlemass constantly), and of course Traditional and NWOBHM as well.

Are there any death metal record that you used to love and now you think `Damn, what a crap, how I could have listened to this`? On the other hand -have you re-discovered some records that you by some miracle passed by when they were out?

This is a GREAT question! I would say `Effigy of the Forgotten` would top that list. It was cool when it came out I guess, but now it represents everything I hate about modern DM. Chuggy/mosh parts, pointless brutality, and of course that awful `Suffo-blast` that all the bands do now. Ugh. As far as albums I missed out on, I had the first Eternal Solstice CD in my collection for 8-9 years and totally forgot I even had it. When I first got it, I guess it didn`t click right away and it just got filed away with all the other CDs. Then out of the blue 4-5 years ago I was looking through my collection for some stuff I hadn`t listened to in AGES, and grabbed that CD. As soon as I heard it, it instantly clicked with me and I tracked down all their albums immediately. They are now one of my favorite DM bands for their simplicity and great/catchy songwriting.

I`ve met such opinion `The bands that struggle to worship old school death metal and sound their way are silly, because their early death metal gods would have clear production if only they had it available these days`. Would you agree? How could you respond?

That`s a bunch of shit. Those people also probably think `Night of the Living Dead` sucks because it`s in black and white. There`s really no point to even argue with those people, because they wouldn`t know vibe or atmosphere if it knocked them across their sideways Yankees hat. DM should sound RAW. It should sound PRIMITIVE. It should have a murky feeling that goes with it, because that is the true feeling of DEATH.

How do you see this: death metal bands who have real life problems in their lirycs are sometimes laughted at by some portions of fans as being too modern or not grim enough (even called scornfully life metal), while bands who copes with horror/gore/death are respected as being true and serious, while in fact this second group of bands are intended to give listeners fun rather, aren`t they? What is your opinion on that? How seriously do you treat your musick and lirycs?

If we are talking old style bands, then obviously those bands that have cool hand drawn cover art and songs about zombies and Hell are doing what fits the music. The "real life problems" lyrics are much better suited to modern bands with techy playing and soulless atmospheres. This music is supposed to represent HORROR and DEATH. I treat our music pretty seriously, but in the end, it`s just music. The same goes for our lyrics. I have always been interested in dark and morbid things, so that is what I write about mainly.

As the fan of horror - what is your opinion modern productions in Saw/Hostel genre, as well as Japaneese school (The Ring)?

Hostel is the biggest pile of shit ever. How that movie is popular is beyond me. I can take some of the Saw movies, but the MTV style editing really ruins it. I`m way more into 70`s and 80`s movies before CGI took over and ruined horror. A lot of the newer Japanese horror movies are pretty good, as long as they don`t abuse the CGI too much. There are much cooler movies being made overseas than anything that comes out in America these days. I don`t even look anymore because it would just be one disappointment after another. It`s not worth it. I`ll stick to my old movies that were filmed with passion and integrity as the driving force, not how many 16 year old kids would think the CGI blood was `sick` or whatever.

Nowy album nagrywaliście w twoim domowym studio, prawda? Przypuszczam, że mieliście na celu osiągnięcie pierwotnego, ale masywnego i gęstego brzmienia. Masz pewnie niezły ubaw patrząc na zespoły próbujące uzyskać stare brzmienie Death Metalu we współczesnych, cyfrowych studiach?

Trafiłeś w dziesiątkę! Rozwala mnie jak widzę wszystkie te "zespoliki" używające wymuskanego sprzętu i cyfrowego dźwięku w nowoczesnych studiach i nazywające "brzmieniem starej szkoły" coś, co nim nie jest. Najtańszy dostępny dziś sprzęt odpowiada temu, co mieliśmy 20 lat temu, więc możesz osiągnąć brzmienie jakie chcesz, jeśli tylko zainwestujesz w odpowiednie piece i bębny. Większość zespołów jest zbyt leniwa, by oto odpowiednio zadbać.

Oba wasze albumy kończą się długimi, około 10 minutowymi utworami. Staje się to powoli waszym znakiem rozpoznawczym.

Chyba tak. Nawet na pierwszym demo, które nagrywałem samodzielnie, miałem najdłuższy utwór na końcu. Dobrze robi jakaś odmiana, coś bardziej `epickiego`, co jednak nie zniweczy klimatu albumu. Jeśli nie lubisz ostatniego utwory, po prostu go wyłączasz. Nie wiem jeszcze na pewno, czy zastosujemy ten zabieg na trzecim albumie, ale nie będzie to chyba zaskoczenie..

Planujecie wersję winylową `Beyond the cursed Tomb`?

Oczywiście, bardzo chciał bym ten materiał widzieć na winylu, ale jak dotąd nie ma żadnej oferty od wytwórni w tym zakresie. Zatem jest to możliwe, ale nic pewnego.

Jestem ciekawy tych intr w waszych utworzch, brzmią jak z jakiś horrorów? Nie obawiacie się jakiś prawnych problemów o prawa autorskie? I kto to jest ta `pani z ambony` (`satanic music and supressive lirycs` - pomysłowe)?

Tak, one są wzięte z przwdziwych horrorów. To raczej podziemne produkcje, więc nie sądzę, by ktoś zaprzątał sobie głowę tym, że wykorzystaliśmy te fragmenty. Intro do płyty `Condemned Cathedral` i do utworu `Festering Messiah` z nowej płyty wzięliśmy z `Black Roses`. Klasyczny heavy metalowy horror.

Wygląda na to, że czysty Death Metal wyparł partie doom metalowe na nowym lp w porównaniu z debiutem (tak, czy inaczej nazywanie Decrepitaph zespołem death/doom uważam za mylące).

Nie sądzę by tak było. Jest tyle samo partii doom, co przedtem. A niewykluczone, że wrecz więcej. Tyle, że są to krótsze fragmenty, zamiast człych utworów na nich opartych. Za wyjątkiem może utworu tytułowego, w całości opartego na domm’owym motywie.

Jesteście w Razorback, przynajmniej jeśli chodzi o pełne wydawnictwa. Jak zaczęła się wasza współpraca, czy jesteście zadowoleni z ich pracy? Czy postawiacie sobie wpływ na wygląd, sposób wydania waszych płyt?

Zaprzyjaźniliśmy się z Billym parę lat temu – połączyła nas nienawiść do tych samych zjawisk. Lubiliśmy te same stare kapele i filmy, a kiedy usłyszał promo Decrepitaph pod koniec 2007 zaproponował nam wydanie albumu a reszta jest historią! Jeśli idzie o podział zadań, robimy nasze najlepiej jak możemy i wierzymy że nasz materiał idzie w dobre ręce. Wiele wysiłku wkładam w promowanie naszych wydawnictw i wiem że Billy także. Oczywiście me mnóstwo innych zespołów, więc nigdy nie zostawiam go samego w dziele głoszenia słowa. Grafikę i projekt w większości robimy sami i gotowy wzór wysyłamy do Razorback.

Ciekawi mnie jak wygląda tryb pracy zespołu, który co chwilę publikuje nowe wydawnictwa tak jak wy. Czy to jest tak: `ok, przygotowujemy dużą płytę, więc na jakiś czas żadnych ep`ek czy splitów`. Czy inaczej komponuje się utworzy na małe wydawnictwa niż na pełną płytę?

Cóż, piszemy i nagrywamy bardzo szybko, więc jeśli pojawia się ciekawa oferta, zawsze możemy przygotować jeden lub dwa utwory na split. Zwykle materiał na małe wydawnictwa powstaje szybciej , jednak zawsze wkładamy w niego całych siebie abyśmy mogli być dumni z końcowego efektu. Mimo, że dla nas pełny CD/LP jest najważniejszy, nie znaczy to że nie możemy też spędzić paru chwil na przygotowanie splitu czy epki.

Decrepitaph zaczynał jako jednoosobowy projekt be później przekształcić się w trio. Czy wciąż zachowujesz decydujące słowo w zespole czy raczej wszyscy członkowie mają równy wpływ jeśli chodzi i podejmowanie decyzji i tworzenie muzyki?

Obecnie jesteśmy duetem i tak jest dobrze. Współpracuje nam się z Sinwormem doskonale i zawsze zgadzamy się co do planowanych akcji. Ja piszę większość materiału, Sinworm dokręca niektóre fragmenty, dodaje swoje solówki, tak więc jest to dzieło zespołowe. Nie brzmiało by to tak, jak brzmi bez niego, jeśli posłuchasz demo, które przygotowałem sam będziesz wiedział o czym mówię.

Macie całkiem sporo wydawnictw, czy często słuchasz własnych nagrań? Z którego z nich jesteś najbardziej dumny (nie licząc najnowszego, haha)?

Tak naprawdę nie słucham naszych rzeczy. Kiedy coś nowego wychodzi, zarzucę sobie to parę razy, ale nie więcej. Nasz debiutancki CD ukazał się 14 miesięcy temu i może przesłuchałem go ze trzy razy. Jeśli chodzi o faworytów, myślę że to będzie epka `Resurrected and Rotting` wydana przez Doomentia. Bardzo lubię brzmienie jaki uzyskaliśmy a oraz te 2 kompozycje (choć napisane błyskawicznie) są naprawdę mocne i spokojnie mogły by wejść na każdy z naszych CD.

Jak wygląda sprawa z koncertami. Gdzie najdalej udało wam się zabrnąć? I który z nich był najsłabszy, a który najlepszy?

Jak dotąd zagraliśmy tylko 2 sztuki, obie w Texasie. Zatem najdalej zajechaliśmy do Houston odległe o 5 godzin drogi. Koncert jaki daliśmy w Dallas był do dupy, pomijając fakt, że graliśmy z naszymi kumplami z Father Befouled i Prosanctus Inferi, to było fajne. Sztuka w Houston z Master i Goreaphobia była o wiele bardziej udana i uzmysłowiła nam, że tamtejsza prawdziwa metalowa scena jest o wiele mocniejsza, niż w Dallas.

Czy planujecie wydawnictwo live lub video?

Na razie nie. Może kiedyś zrobimy jakieś tanie video i dorzucimy jako bonus do nowego CD, ale nie jest to dla nas coś ważnego. W każdym razie nie wykluczamy ...

Jak i kiedy pierwszy raz zetknąłeś się z death metalem i zdałeś sobie sprawę że to jest to co chcesz robić w życiu? Czy myślisz że wciąż jesteś tak zaangażowany w scenę, jak na początku i że pozostaniesz w przyszłości?

Wdepnąłem w metal około 1990, dla mnie to znaczy `od zawsze`. Patrzyłem, jak moi starzy kumple tracili zainteresowanie i odpadali rok po roku, ale oni byli w tym z niewłaściwych powodów, prawdziwa scena ich nie potrzebuje. Cale moje życie to metal. Ciężko być wciąż w takim samym stopniu zaangażowanym, kiedy 95% nowych zespołów to gówno. Mam gdzieś to wszystko, co wnosi ta cala hałastra `brutalnych death metalowców`. Kompletnie rozmijają się z istotą rzeczy. A będzie tylko gorzej. Przez ostatnie lata przetrwała nieliczna elita prawdziwego DM i to dobrze, ale większość grup i fanów wciąż nie wie, o co chodzi w metalu.

Czy gości no grillu też częstujesz death metalem? Jakie inne podgatunki akceptujesz?

Zwykle to jest metal w ogólności. Każdy metal jest dla mnie w porządku za wyjątkiem metalcore, jednoosobowych sztucznych tworów goregrind, i cokolwiek nawiązującego do slam/brutal death metalu. Uwielbiam stary Thrash, Black Metal, Prawdziwy Grindcore (nie to co uchodzi za gc dzisiaj), Doom (o ile nie zrzyna na okrągło z Sabbath/Candlemass) i oczywiście Tradycyjny Metal jak i NWOBHM.

Czy jest jakaś płyta DM którą uwielbiałeś a teraz myślisz `Psia krew, jak mogłem słuchać takiego gówna`? Z innej strony – czy odkryłeś na nowo jakieś stare płyty, które swego czasu zignorowałeś?

Doskonałe pytanie! W pierwszej kolejności `Effigy of the Forgotten`. Kiedy się ukazała była całkiem fajna, ale teraz stanowi wszystko, czego nienawidzę we współczesnym death metalu. Niekontrolowane, gwałtowne partie, bezcelowa brutalność i ponad wszystko obrzydliwe `Suffo-blasty`, które kopiują wszystkie nowe zespoły. Pff ... Jeśli idzie o albumy, które pominąłem, mam w swojej kolekcji pierwszy Eternal Solstice już 8-9 lat i zupełnie o nim zapomniałem. Kiedy go dostałem nie zaskoczyłem chyba, zaginął w natłoku innych płyt. 4-5 lat temu przeglądałem półkę w poszukiwaniu dawno nie słuchanych płyt i złapałem ją. Usłyszałem ponownie i chwyciło, natychmiast zebrałem całą dyskografię. Dziś są jedną z moich ulubionych grup w death metalu – łączą prostotę ze znakomitymi, chwytliwymi kompozycjami.

Usłyszałem taką opinię: `Zespoły czczące death metal starej szkoły i brzmiące w ten sposób robią głupio, bo ich wcześni bogowie, gdyby mogli sobie pozwolić wówczas, mieli by czystą produkcję`. Zgodzisz się z tym?

Bzdura jakaś. Ten ktoś myśli też pewnie, że `Noc żywych trupów` jest do dupy, bo jest czarno-białe. Nie ma sensu z nimi dyskutować, nie pojęli by klimatu i atmosfery starego death metalu nawet gdyby walnąć ich w te wieśniackie łby. DEATH METAL powinien być SUROWY. Powinien być PRYMITYWNY. Powinien iść w parze z mrokiem, bo takie jest prawdziwe doznanie ŚMIERCI.

Co sądzisz o tym: grupy death metalowe poruszające w tekstach realne problemy są często wyśmiewane przez fanów, jako nowoczesne i nie dość mroczne (pogardliwe nazywane life metal), podczas gdy zespoły obracające się w tematyce horroru/gore/śmierci są szanowane jako bardziej poważne i prawdziwe, a przecież one chyba są bardziej dla rozrywki fanów. Co ty na to? Czy bardzo poważnie podchodzisz do swojej muzyki i tekstów?

Jeśli rozmawiamy o zespołach grających w starym stylu, to grupy mające fajne, ręcznie malowane okładki i teksty o zombie i Piekle wpasowują się do tego stylu. `Realne problemy` o wiele lepiej pasują do nowych zespołów, grających techniczną muzykę bez duszy. Ta muzyka ma reprezentować HORROR i ŚMIERĆ. Traktuję muzykę na tyle poważnie, na ile można traktować muzykę. To samo dotyczy tekstów. Od zawsze miałem zainteresowanie w mrocznej i chorobliwej tematyce, więc o tym głównie piszę.

Jaka jest twoja opinia jako fana horror’ów o współczesnych produkcjach pokroju `Piła`/`Hostel`, a także o horrorach japońskich?

Hostel to największe gówno, jak to coś stał się popularny jest poza moim pojęciem. Niektóre części Piły są w porządku, ale rujnuje je montaż w stylu MTV. O wiele bardziej podchodzą mi filmy z lat 70 i 80ych, powstałe przed erą dominacji efektów komputerowych, które zrujnowały horror. Wiele nowych japońskich produkcji jest całkiem niezłych, o ile też nie przesadzają z animacjami komputerowymi. Zresztą dziś o wiele fajniejsze rzeczy pochodzą z poza Ameryki. Naszych produkcji już nawet nie oglądam – jedno rozczarowanie po drugim. Szkoda czasu. Pozostanę przy moich starych filmach nakręconych z pasją, kiedy w cenie była spójność fabuły, zamiast pasjonować i podniecać się komputerowo wygenerowaną krwią, jak 16 letnie dzieciaki.

Don`t you think Disma will be viewed as side band of members of known bands?

No I don`t. Disma is a full `real` band. The only members of Disma who have another active band are Shawn and I (Funebrarum new ep in progress!) so things are working out well. Disma is: Shawn Eldridge: Drums, Daryl Kahan: Guitar, Bill Venner: Guitar, Randi Stokes: Bass, Craig Pillard: Vocals,

Who is mainly responsible for musical direction. Is it easy to put bands musick in certain path when every member have experience in rather distinct field of extreme Metal?

Bill and I compose the music. Shawn contributes to the development and arrangement of the songs. Craig and I write the lyrics. Each member has a voice in the band but the creative core of the band is Bill and myself.

You`ve released your demo as tape cassette. I guess you treat is as collectors gem rather then as way of promotion, right? I believe you gain more attention thanks to your myspace site, despite it`s not quite old school. What is the feedbeck to the demo so far?

We released our first demo `The Vault of Membros` in October 2009 and it is still in press. When a band first emerges it is only logical (in our minds) to release to a demo on cassette, opposed to a CDR or CD (which can be easily lost in the shuffle these days.) We also recorded our demo (and upcoming 7``ep) in a 100% analog studio. The tape and vinyl format are the only way to present analog recordings. Our myspace page has also helped to spread our name. Overall, the response to our demo and myspace has been great with excellent reviews and feedback from around the world. Thanks to our fans and supporters worldwide.

Disma musick pays tribute to both American old Death Metal bands as well to European (especially when it comes to sound). Which of bands from both these sides can you say were most inspiring to you?

I personally enjoy old DM bands like: Autopsy, Necrovore, Repulsion, Winter, Rottrevore as well as Demigod, Abhorrence / Amorphis, Bolt Thrower, Crypt of Kerberos, Eternal Darkness, Traumatic, Funebre, Rippikoulu, Carnage, Nihilist, Macabre End etc. Most inspiring to us (stylistically) would probably be the work of bands like Abhorrence, Rippikoulu or Demigod. The true inspiration comes from within.

You have ep an full lenght in plans. Do you have stuff ready yet? Who will release these? When can these releases to be expected?

We have a new 7``ep entitled `The Manifestation` coming soon on the cult label Necroharmonic (www.necroharmonic.com). This ep features two new songs recorded by Chris Pierce / Analog Destruction who also engineered our demo `The Vault of Membros`. This release is heavy as fuck and should see the light of day in March 2010. Our cover artwork is done by Ola Larsson who is a great underground artist from Sweden. Write to Necroharmonic for more info the this releases. We are also planning another 7``ep on another label which will be followed by a full length album.

How about bands live performances?

We rehearse as often as possible with the intention of getting the band playing out more. Disma played our first show at the `New Jersey Deathfest` several months ago which was a big success. Our next live appearance will be at the `Rites of Darkness Festival` in Texas on March 6th with Nunslaughter, Midnight plus some other good bands. We look forward to conquering European shores and desecrate stages worldwide..

Do you agree that ugly and raw Death Metal is gaining back its positions after years ultra-fast and technical (mainly american based) was on top? Which of new emerging bands still sounding old can you reccomend?

It seems that there is a growing underground International scene which can only be good for bands like us. Here are some Death Metal bands deserving support:-Interment (Swe), Goreaphobia (US), Excruciate (Swe), Drowned (DE), Tyrant (Swe), Throneum (Pol), Demonical (Swe), Cruciamentum (UK), Anatomia (Jap), Cemetery Urn (Aus), Slugathor (Fin) among others. I am still waiting to hear that band that absolutely destroys and crushes everything in sight.

How did you step into Metal underground?

I grew up listening to punk/hardcore with a parallel interest in Metal starting in the 80`s with bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Venom etc.. soon after I became aware of Slayer, Possessed, Destruction, Bathory etc....and of course the New York, Florida scenes and the European scenes which were all visible to me through underground zines, tape trading, shows etc.. From Heavy Metal, Thrash to Grindcore and Death Metal I followed the evolution of the music closely from it's beginnings.

What was your first Metal show you saw (I mean as a fan, not as band member)?

My first real Death Metal shows were seeing'Mechanized Death in NJ 1984 and NYC Mayhem"in NY 1985. New Jersey / New York had a big Metal scene in the 1980's and I was lucky to see some great shows.

You personally take part in numerous bands. I assume it is a way to explore various forms of extreme musick. Which of your current and past bands is most important to you?

I enjoy creating, playing, recording and listening to music in general. Funebrarum have existed for 11 years now. I enjoy being in the band and will continue to do for as long as possible. Disma is also a great outlet for me to work with talented musicians playing some good music. We will continue to push the envelope on heaviness, darkness and brutality!!

Nasze pierwsze demo `The Vault of Membros` wydaliśmy w październiku 2009 i wciąż je wznawiamy. Jak ma sie sprawa koncertów?

Intensywnie ćwiczymy w sali prób, aby grać coraz więcej na żywo. Pierwszy koncert Disma miał miejsce podczas `New Jersey Deathfest` parę miesięcy temu i był dużym sukcesem. Nasz kolejny występ odbędzie się na `Rites of Darkness Festival` w Teksasie 6 marca u boku Nunslaughter, Midnight i innych niezłych kapel. Jakie były twoje pierwsze kroki w podziemnym metalu?

Wyrosłem w latach 80 słuchając punka/hardcore przy jednoczesnym zainteresowaniu Metalem zespołów takich jak Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Venom itd... chwilę później dotarły do mojej świadomości Slayer, Possessed, Destruction, Bathory ... no i przy nowojorskiej i florydzkiej scenie, które poznawałem dzięki podziemnym zinom, tape tradingowi, koncertom ... Od Heavy Metalu, Thrashu do Grindcore i Death Metalu śledziłem ewolucję gatunku od jego początków.

Jaki pierwszy koncert metalowy oglądałeś jako fan?

Moje pierwsze prawdziwe koncerty Death Metalowe to Mechanized Death w New Jersey w 1984 i NYC Mayhem w Nowym Jorku w 1985. New Jersey i Nowy Jork miały wielką scenę w latach 80 i miałem szczęście oglądać świetne sztuki.

Sam jesteś członkiem kilku zespołów. Zapewne traktujesz to jako możliwość realizacji różnych gatunków ekstremalnego metalu. Który z byłych i obecnych zespołów jest dla ciebie najważniejszy?

First can you introduce people from Krypts, also in terms of musical interests.

Krypts is: Antti: Bass and Vocals, Topi: Guitar, Ville: Guitar, Otso: Drums
Antti: Krypts is a death metal band. We play the kind of music we want to, but most of our influences comes from bands like old Amorphis and Sentenced, Demigod, Nihilist/Entombed, Demilich etc.

Krypts, along with a few other bands could be considered as sort of second wave of Finnish death metal. Do you see it this way? Which of these bands you would reccomend?

Antti: Don`t know if there is any'second wave of Finnish death metal, but many young bands like Stench of Decay, Ascended and Swallowed seems to have the same interest of playing old school inspired death metal.
Topi: Well maybe not a wave, but something like that yes. I`d recommend bands like: Stench of Decay, Ascended, Swallowed, Slugathor (Rest in festering slime!), Lie in Ruins (which is formed in early 90`s though they made a"comeback few years back).

You have demo released last year which is sold out now is that right? What are the opinions it gained?

Otso: The cd version is sold out and I run out of copies faster than I ever could imagine. We also couldn`t have excepted such good feedback!

I can see you are focusing on long, majestic songs. Is this going to be the same in the future?

Otso: In my case when the compose work makes progress, I`m hardly ever satisfied with a song under 3 minutes. I just feel that something is still missing or some parts could be better, so usually the songs end up between 5-- 7 minutes which happened with all the songs in our last demo. At the moment, the tracks of our upcoming 7`` EP aren`t much over 5 minutes though.

You have stronly exposed bass parts. This gives your sound even more atmosphere. Is this on purpose?

Otso: Yes. For us, bass is not only low frequency sounds. I`d consider it as a normal overdriven guitar with an octave lower tune, thicker strings and own riffs.
Antti: Even in the practice place the bass guitar is more loud than the guitars, haha.

Did you have opportunity tu check your demo songs alive?

Otso: Not yet

Detest Records is re-releasing your demo, is it going to get same cover art as demo had? Are you planning to have some additional tracks on this? Are there other formats planned then vinyl?

Topi: It has the same cover art and no additional tracks. Just ``Open The Crypt``-demo.
Antti: It should be out in February and there is not going to be any other re-release formats than the 12``.

Later 2010 7``ep is planned to be relased. Say a few words on this - do you have stuff ready? Will it be different form your demo tracks?

Topi: We have to practice these songs more, but basically all the material is ready. The songs will be more crushing and slower and once again it will be released on Detest Records.

Are you planning to record any covers? What would that be?

Antti: I don't think so. We may play cover songs live, but I see no reason why to record. There is no need to record good songs again, and who wants to cover a weak song.

Is this your idea to focus on vinyl releases? Do you consider this format to be more noble for death metal? What is your opinion on CDS and tapes?

Topi: CD`s, Tapes, Vinyls all ok. I think it was our labels idea to focus on vinyl, but I think that vinyl is better for a single release.
Otso: I prefer releases with flat construction, though tapes has its own feeling..

How about full length release - do you have any plans in this area?

Otso: We`ve been thinking of it, this might be our next step after the 7``. We`ll see!

From what I can see, you are taking part in numerous bands. Do you expect this could possibly to be sort of trade off and require to sacrifice one band for another, as it can be tough to play in 2 or 3 bands.

Topi: Actually I`m the only who plays in other band besides Krypts. I also used to play bass in Swallowed. But now I just have Krypts And Desolator (Black Metal like BLASPHEMY, BESTIAL WARLUST and so on...)

What is your opinion on bands like Bloodbath or Chaosbreed. In more general terms do you consider musick that is important, no matter what attitude musicians are taking?

Antti: In the end, it`s the music is what matters the most. A band full of shitheads can make good music and vice versa. If the bands attitude sucks there`s no need to support the band. Though, I don`t really care about Bloodbath or Chaoswhat??
Otso: I personally have been listening to Bloodbaths new album lately and I must say that its very good for such a ``popular death metal album``.

Which early death metal Finnish release you value most?

Topi: Impossible to say just one. Nespithe, Shadows of the Past, Karelian Isthmus, Slumber of Sullen eyes... Yeah.

I`m curius on your opinion on similarities between Finnish and Sweddish death metal scene. What is your opinion on this.

Topi: well there might be some similarities, as you can find on Swedish and American Death metal too? Finnish Death Metal is much more slower, there`s more leads and it`s more atmospheric. As Swedish Death Metal is more hardcore influenced banging.

What do you think, why so few early Finnish death metal bands still play death metal today or they have split up?

Otso: Everyones taste of music evolves year by year. In cases like Amorphis and Sentenced, pure death metal turned into mainstream crap. It`s a shame but I guess they just wanted to highlight their musical abilities this way. I`m also sure that money has nothing to do with it.. grhm...

W ubiegłym roku wydaliście 4-utworowe demo? Jakie zebrało ono opinie?

Otso: Wersja cd jest już wyprzedana i stało się to szybciej, niż mógłbym to sobie wyobrazić. Nie spodziewaliśmy się także aż tak dobrego przyjęcia!

Skupiacie się raczej na długich, podniosłych utworach, czy zamierzacie utrzymać ten kurs na kolejnych wydawnictwach?

Otso: Jeśli chodzi o mnie, podczas komponowania, rzadko jestem usatysfakcjonowany utworami poniżej trzech minut – ciągle czegoś im brakuje, albo chcę porawić niektóre fragmenty. Zwykle kończy się to 5-7 minutowymi utworami i tak też jest w przypadku zawartości naszego demo. Jednak jeśli chodzi o nasz nadchodzący 7``, utwory na nim zawarte nie przekroczą wiele 5 minut.

W szczególny sposób wyeksponowaliście partie basu, co nadaje waszym dźwiękom swoistej atmosfery. Czy takie było zamierzenie?

Otso: Tak. W naszym przypadku bas to nie tylko niskie tony. W zasadzie uważam bas za dodatkową przesterowaną gitarę, tyle że nastrojoną oktawę niżej, wygrywającą swoje riffy na grubszych strunach.
Antti: Nawet podczas naszych prób bas jest głośniejszy niż gitary, haha.

Czy mieliście okazję sprawdzić wasze utwory na żywo?

Otso: Jak dotąd nie ..

Detest Records Wydaje wasze demo na winylu? Czy będzie ono miało taką sama okładkę? Czy znajdą się na tym wydawnictwie nowe utwory? I czy są planowane inne formaty?

Topi: Okładka posostaniie ta sama, podobnie jak zestaw utworów – po prostu demo``Open The Crypt``.
Antti: Płyta powinna wyjść w lutym i nie będzie innych formatów niż 12``.

Następnym wydawnictwem będzie siedmiocalowa epka. Czy macie już gotowy materiał i czy róźni się od waszego demo?

Topi: Jeszcze sporo prób przed nami, zanim nagramy te utwory, jednak materiał jest w zasadzie gotowy. Jest wolniwszy i jeszcze bardziej przygniatajacy ni z nasz dotychczasowy stuff. Ukaże się nakładem Detest Records.

Czy planujecie jakieś covery?

Antti: Raczej nie. Być może jakieś będziemy grać na żywo, ale nie widzę sensu umieszczać ich na płytach. Po co nagrywać dobry utwór ponownie, a z drugiej strony po co komu przeróbki słabych utworów.

Czy zamierzacie się skupić na winylu jako nośniku waszych dźwieków? Myślicie, że jest szczególnie odpowiedni dla death metalu? Co sądzicie o CD i kasetach?

Topi: Płyty CD`s, kasety, winyle – wszystkie są dla mnie ok. To raczej kurs wytwórni, jeśli chodzi o preferencje winylu, uważam jednak ze najlepiej się sprawdza jako nośnik dla krótkich wydawnictw.

Otso: Preferuję formaty o płaskich gabarytach, choć kasety też mają swój klimat..

Czy macie już plany odnośnie pełnego wydawnictwa?

Otso: Myśleliśmy o tym, może jako następny krok po wydaniu 7``. Zobaczymy!

Jak widzę, uczestniczycie w wielu zespołach. Jak wygladają wasze priorytety?

Topi: Właściwie tylko ja gram w innych zespołach poza Krypts. Kiedyś grałem też w Swallowed. Jednak obecnie tylko w Krypts And Desolator (Black Metal w typie BLASPHEMY, BESTIAL WARLUST itd...)

Co sądzisz o zespołach pokroju Bloodbath czy Chaosbreed. Czy ważna jest wg was postawa i podejście czy najistotniejsza jest muzyka?

Antti: Muzyka jest najważniejsza. Grupa pajaców może tworzyć doskonałą muzykę i vice versa. Jeśli postawa zespołu jest do dupy nie wspieraj ich i już. Tak czy inaczej, mam gdzieś Bloodbath i Chaos-cośtam??

Otso: Słuchałem nowego Bloodbath ostatnio i muszę przeznać, że to bardzo dobra muza jak na `popularny album death metalowy`.

Które z wczesnych wydawnictw fińskiej sceny cenisz szczególnie?

Topi: Nie sposób wymienić tylko jedno. `Nespithe`, `Shadows of the Past`, `Karelian Isthmus`, `Slumber of Sullen eyes`... Yeah.

Jestem ciekawy twojej opinii na temat podobieństw sceny fińskiej i szwedzkiej.

Topi: Cóż, mogą być jakieś podobieństwa, tak samo jak możesz mnie znaleźć między szwedzkim a amerykańskim death metalem. Finska scena death metal jest o wiele wolniejsza, więcej jest solówek i klimatu. Z kolei szwedzki odłam jest bardziej zainspirowany sceną hardcore.

Jak myślisz, dlaczego tak niewiele starych fińskich grup death metalowych pozostało wiernymi tej muzyce lub nie przetrwało do dziś?

Otso: U każdego zmysł muzyki zmienia się z biegiem czasu. W przypadku Amorphis i Sentenced, czysty death metal zamienili na mainstramowe gówno. Szkoda, że tak się stało, choć zapewne powodowało nimi pragnienie pokazania swoich muzycznych imiejętności w szerszy sposób. Jestem przekonany, że kasa nie miała tu nic do rzeczy.. grhm...

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST TOUCH WITH UNDERGROUND DEATH METAL SCENE?

I started listening metal 14 years ago and fell in the underground scene 10 years ago. My underground journey started with thrash and heavy metal when I got into bands such as OSTROGOTH, DARK ANGEL, ANTHARES, RIGOR MORTIS, ACID and CHATEAUX.
I bought ENTOMBED first Lp back in 2002 if I remember well and was not really into it back then, can’t really remember why but I guess it wasn’t thrashy enough for me.
In 2005 I checked DISMEMBER first lp and fell in love with it. I decided to give ENTOMBED 1st Lp another try and this was it, I was hooked. I started searching more and more Scandinavian Metal of Death and days after days I was more into that genre.

SAY SOME WORDS ABOUT ORIGINS OF YOUR LABEL? WHY YOU DECIDED TO RUN THIS?

Even though I have had the will to release stuff for years, it was only when I started to work after the university that I had the necessary cash in my hands to do it. Back in 2007, I got involved in a small label with another guy from Belgium. We released one tape which was a thrash metal compilation tape, which was his idea and did pretty well. After some months, we didn’t get along anymore. I wanted to release Death Metal and since he was not really into that style, we had some fights around it. I decided to quit and to create my own underground label in August 2008, Detest Records was born. The name I choose back then comes from the name of an underground Danish Death Metal act simply called Detest.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE EARLY DEATH METAL AND NOWADAYS BANDS?

1989 – 1992: NIHILIST, CREMATORY, DARK ABBEY, MEFISTO, SACRETOMIA, CARTILAGE, AUTOPSY, DELIRIUM.
Today: GRAVE MIASMA, DEAD CONGREGATION, NECROWRETCH, INVIDIOUS and – shameless promotion time – the bands I work with.

IT CAN BE NOTICED THAT YOU FOCUS ON SWEDEN AND FINLAND SCENE? IS THIS A COINCIDENCE?

This is not a coincidence at all as I’m mostly into euro Metal of Death even though I enjoy some US bands such as AUTOPSY and INCANTATION. Despite the fact that all the bands I’ve worked with up till now come from Scandinavia, I can already reveal you that I’m gonna work with bands coming from other parts of Europe within the next months.

YOU’VE RELEASED TAPES/VINYLS SO FAR, ARE YOU PLANNING ANY OTHER FORMATS IN THE FUTURE?

To tell you the truth, I’m not really interested in Cd’s but since the demand for a Cd’s of some of my bands is becoming important, I think I’ll release Cd’s from time to time in the future. This is the case for MIASMAL for example. I will release a compilation of both the demo and 7” trax in 2010.

YOU PUT STRESS ON ANCIENT DEATH METAL UNDERGROUND, BOTH IN LAYOUTS AND GRAPHICS OF YOUR RELEASES. IS THIS YOUR PURPOSE TO KEEP THEM LOOKING OLD SCHOOL? DO YOU HAVE TYPEWRITER?

Yes this is of course done on purpose. My aim is not to look old school for the sake of it but that’s what I like, nothing else. And, yes I happen to work with a typewriter.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON MP3 AND INTERNET. WHAT SHOULD THEY BE USED FOR AND WHAT SHOULDN’T?

Mp3’s are great to discover bands before buying or releasing their stuff and as far as I’m concerned I have no problem at all with people uploading my releases on their blogs, etc. coz I’m pretty sure the underground maniax want to lay their hands on the proper releases of the bands they’re into. Mp3’s are also very interesting to get the opportunity to listen to rare stuff such as demo’s or obscure Lp’s.

BESISE LABEL YOU RUN DISTRO. HOW IS IT GOING? HOW ABOUT OTHER UNDERGROUND ACTIVITIES?

The distro is doing well. I choose not to stock tons of stuff but to have no more than 20 items in my distro but in 20 or 30 copies of each. As far as I’m concerned, my sale figures are good and of course it helps me releasing more stuff, etc.
Regarding other underground activities, I’m organizing metal parties on a monthly basis here in Brussels, Belgium. During those nights, a friend of mine and I airplay traditional metal, be it heavy, thrash, black or death. We started this project one year ago and the response has been huge since then. We have people coming from every parts of Belgium and often have people coming from Germany, The Netherlands and France as well. Beside this I’m also helping a new Belgian outfit called DAWN OF CRUCIFIXION which plays an impressive mix between DARKTHRONE, VENOM and DISCHARGE. I’m organizing them their first live appearance in Brussels at the end of this month. Their first demo will be released on tape at this moment or a bit later. WHAT ARE YOUR MAJOR EDITING PLANS FOR 2010? WHICH OF YOUR UPCOMMING RELEASES WOULD YOU RECCOMEND MOST?

Where ``Slumber of sullen eyes`` finishes, `` Where death and decay reign`` begins. Stench of Decay owes really much to their country mates Demigod, they can be fairly called heirs, if anybody.

This one gives me bliss of tear in the eye, as it remainds me these early days, when Nordic death metal was conquering everithing and more. Miasmal has all it needs: Entombed’s sound, Unleashed’s vibe, Amorphis’
dark passages, Desultory’s catchness, all mixed in perfect proportions and crafted with really high spirit. Looking forward for their next releases.

KRYPTS ``Open the crypt``
My secret favourite of Detest excavations so far. Utter darkness from deepest basements of Finland. Everithing in place here – bones braking sound, high pace passages tuening into slow downs, exposed bass (opening to “Open the Crypt” owns) and above all it has morbid atmosphere so thick you can almost touch it. “The-Daaaay ooooov-reeckooniiiing”. Fear them!

YOU HAVE QUITE A FEW RELEASES FOR STILL YOUNG BAND. CAN YOU SAY FEW FORDS ON EACH OF THEM, ESPECIALLY ON PROGRESS THAT THE BAND TOOK ON EACH OF THEM?

Thank you, although we only have 2 offical releases. Our full length, that was released in September 2008. Then there is our Live album, thanks to mighty TYFB from early 2009. As far as ``Spark of Creation``, I think its fairly well for being recorded when I was 16. Like all projects looking back, there are somethings you kind of shake your head at. Most noticebly that I was the only one who cared about the album or the band! That explains for some of the production and sound. We`ve grown alot sense then, which is great. We recorded 2 other demos before that, which all material ended up on "Spark of Creation. I believe those were recorded in 2007. So that would make me only 15 at the time of those recordings.

YOU`VE PUBLISHED 2 NEW SONGS IN YOUR MYSPACE, THEY SEEM A BIT DARKER IN ATMOSPHERE, DO YOU AGREE? IS THIS THE DIRECTION NO MERCY IS GOING TO TAKE?

``Fall Into The Sky``" and ``The Eye of The Storm`` are 2 of my favorite to play at shows now! I do agree they are darker and heavier. We have more that is being demoed right now, it`ll be cool once they are up. I do believe that our next recording will be our best yet. Our musical direction is alot darker and personal with being heavier.

HOW ABOUT NEXT RELEASE?

We're currently auditioning drummers, with the possibility of 2nd guitarists. We will definetly be recording but I have no idea when our next release will be.

WHAT ARE MAIN INSPIRATION FOR YOUR MUSIC?

Life is our main inspiration, I`m a very personal writer. We`re not a band that sings about shit we have no idea about, to raise eyebrows or get talked about. Music and No Mercy are a huge part of my life!

THE BAND HAD A FEW LINEUP CHANGES. ESPECIALLY DRUMMER SEAT SEEMS TO BURN. IS IT HARD TO FIND PROPER PEOPLE THERE?

Since our conception we`ve auditioned people out to try and find our niche. Josh is our 2nd Bass player and started in September 2008. We recorded our 2 demos with one drummer, when that fell apart we tried out Michael. Him and Kurt our original
Bass player are on ``Spark of Creation``. That didn`t workout and we kicked out Michael. Sense then our dear friend Kevin, who is an amazing drummer and miles ahead anything that was performed with us, is filling in. His main project Method To Madness is a sweet Prog Rock band! We are currently auditioning and are hoping to find who we need.

YOU PLAY LIVE QUITE A LOT, WAS THERE SOME ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT GIG FOR YOU?

Every show is as important as the last. Whether we play to a hundred or ten people. No Mercy performs their best!

SEEM YOU LIKE TO COVER METALLICA SONGS, DID YOU THING ABOUT OTHER BANDS COVERS ALSO?

We havent performed any covers in well over a year. If we ever do another one, I`d like to do an Anthrax or Iron Maiden one for sure.

I`M CURIOUS ABOUT YOU DEBUT CD COVER ART. SORRY TO SAY THAT, IT IS NOT VERY ENCOURAGING. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION.

We had a guy offer to do it for us, again at the time I was the only one who cared in the band. It was quick and easy, some days I like it and some days I dont.

SAY SAME WORDS ABOUT YOUR LIRYCS, DO YOU HAVE A SONG THAT IS PERSONALLY MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Our 2 newest are by far my most personal, as I stated earlier. I've written every song except for one, which is ``Eye For An Eye``. Kurt is still a dear friend of mine, and a great musicain. However, I feel it dosen`t sink in well with the rest of ``Spark of Creation``.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ON YOUR LOCAL UNDERGROUND SCENE, I MEAN BANDS, ZINES AND CLUBS? I`M ALSO CURIOUS ABOUT METAL OPEN AIR EVENTS IN YOUR AREA.

There is very little music being played here. What we do have is mostly scene kids, which we hate! There are a few who raise their true horns and support metal. To those clubs and fans, we appreciate it more than you know! We are trying to get any promotion available in any form. Unfortunetly there isn`t much in Sanford, North Carolina.

AS THE BAND, WHEN WOULD YOU SAY YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL. WHAT IS YOUR GOAL AS A BAND?

I`d say we`ve been quite sucessfully, especially for our age. Josh is 21 and I`m only 18, it's an honor and a great feeling, when we hold our own with bands that are atleast twice our age. Also we have studio experience with our recordings, as well as professional merchandise. Its also really cool to be on iTunes and things like that nature. I`m anxious to see where we go, because I only want us to suceed!

From the slimy swamps of Copenhagen comes this outrageus creature. But no gloryfying anthems for infamous Vikings roberries here, maybe if they are decomposed in half battle leftovers or drakkars drunk crew rotting in the bottom of Baltic after their fatal journey... Still three youngsters, yet their brutal art gives credit to ancient, low tuned, corpse odour incensed metal of death. Here is David Torturdod, still alive, on behalf of Undergang (next one to dethrone Olsen`s mighty horde?).

FIRST CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOUR BAND? SOME OF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE IN OTHER BANDS RIGHT? WHAT ARE YOUR PREFERENCED BANDS/MUSIC GENRES?

UNDERGANG is and has always been: Dödshjælp on drums, Ondsind on bass and Torturdöd on guitar and vocals. We started playing late spring 2008 and played our first show in August same year. We`ve all played in several punk bands before starting UNDERGANG, knowing each other from the time we each spend in the metalcrust band REALM OF CHAOS. We all listen to a lot of different music genres, in UNDERGANG we just satisfy our lust for playing heavy death metal.

YOU HAVE DEBUT DEMO RELEASED (NOW SOLD-OUT, RIGHT?). TO ME IT COULD BE ANOUNCED AS EARLY GRAVE WITH IT`S HAVINESS STILL CATCHNESS MEETS INCANTATION`S PUTRIDNESS AND DARKNESS. WHAT DO YOU THINK? WHICH BANDS COULD YOU SAY WERE MOST INSPIRING FOR YOUR VIEW OF DEATH METAL?

Yeah, the promo tape sold out a bit faster than I expected, which is all good. Kinda regret never making more, we got an offer from a small label interested i re-releasing the promo tape in a very limited amount but after I send him everything needed to do the re-press he stopped aswering my emails, so I guess that they`ll never see the light of day.
Our music is inspired by such legends as AUTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, CARCASS, IMPETIGO, MORBID ANGEL, CREMATORY, WINTER, PUNGENT STENCH etc., I've heard a lot of different comparisons to our music than those just metioned which is cool to me as well.

YOU`VE TAKEN PART ON"DECOMPOSED" COMPILATION. HOW DO YOU THINK IT WAS USEFUL FOR BANDS PROMOTION?

After having some contact with Nev of Sheperd Of Rot records we added the demo recording of ``Evigt Lidende`` to his first release the DeCOMPosed compilation. For some reason it ended up entitled ``Eternal Struggle``, never really understood why but it's not a big deal. Hopefully the track on the comp. has opened some eyes in the American metalscene for us, that was pretty much our intension at least.

YOUR DEMO ARTWORKS WERE CREATED BY RAFAL KRUSZYK. HOW DID YOU GET TOGETHER INTO COLLABORATION?

The demo tape artwork was made by me. Rafal Kruszyk did some art for us for the LP, at first it was ment for the front cover but then we decided to go in another direction with the front cover so we ended up using the art Rafal did for us for the innersleeve of the LP instead. We started writing together over myspace at first and then he offered to do some art for us which we gladly accepted and I think we put it to good use.

YOU'RE ABOUT TO HAVE YOUR STUFF PRESSED ON LP. CAN YOU SAY SOME WORDS ON THIS,-IT WILL HAVE DIFFERENT COVER RIGHT? IS EXACT RELAESE DATE CONFIRMED? HOW CAN IT BE PURCHASED OBTAINED. WILL IT BE LIMITED EDITION?

Me Saco Un Ojo records from London will release our debut LP ``Indhentet Af Døden`` anytime now. It was supposed to have been out in late November but due to different things it ended up being a bit delayed, as I recall it was send to the pressingplant mid December. The tape we released the summer 2009 was a promo tape we made to find a label interested in releasing our debut LP, we just ended up being cotacted by Jesus og M.S.U.O. records offering to release the LP before we had the tapes all ready. We then decided to sell the promo tape to anyone interested and sold all 100 copies within 2-3 weeks.
The LP will feature black and white artwork by our friend Jonas Bjerg and I`m really satisfied with the end result. The firstpress of the LP will be 500 copies, 100 on colored vinyl. It'll be available through the label and us.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER FORMATS EXCEPT VINYL LP ``INDHENTET AF DODEN`` WILL BE AVAILABLE IN?

We're singing to XTREEM MUSIC records these days and they`ll release the CD version of "``Indhentet Af Døden``. 1000 copies firstpress.

YOUR SONGS ARE ENTITLED IN DANISH, ARE LIRYCS ALSO IN YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE? IS THIS THE WAY TO DIFFERENTIATE YOUR BAND FROM OTHER DEATH METAL ACTS? DO YOU BIND MUCH ATTENTION TO YOUR LIRYCS?

All of our titles and lyrics are in Danish. When we chose a Danish name for our and I knew that all the lyrics had to be in Danish as well. To me it just seemed as the logical way to go and I don`t recall there being another death metal act using Danish for the lyrics before which makes us stand out a bit as well. I write the lyrics after the music is done, trying to make them suitable to what mood the song puts me in. Sometimes it takes ages other times it`s right on the top of my head.

SAY SOME WORDS ON UPCOMING TOUR. IS THIS YOUR FIRST VENTURE OF THIS SORT AND SIZE?

We're trying to take a small trip down through Germany, the Netherlands and back through Germany again. Unfortunately it seems that we're having the same problems as last year when we tried to arrange a small tour. People aren`t that interested in booking us. I guess that maybe our sound is too punk for the metalscene and too metal for the punkscene. Last year we ended up with 2 shows in Germany after trying to arrange a series of shows in Germay, France and the Netherlands as well. We`ll see how it goes. Maybe in a year or two it`ll get easier whe we have more releases out.

HOW ABOUT YOUR LIVE PERFORMANCES SO FAR? DO YOU HAVE MORE STUFF TO PLAY LIVE THAN SONGS FROM DEMO?

We have made 4 songs since the recording of "I.A.D.", first new song "``Hæntørst`` is to be found on a compilation tape out very soon on Baphometal records from Argentina, we`ll get a load of copies of that too.

YOUR LOGO REMINDS AUTOPSY`S ONE A BIT. IS THIS KIND OF TRIBITE TOWARDS THAT BAND? WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON ABSCESS EFFORTS?

Hell yeah, I`ve always loved all of AUTOPSY`s logos and wanted to make something gory for us as well, I`m pretty satisfied with the outcome and to me it suits our music just right.
I like ABSCESS a lot as well, a lot of people seem to not liking them mostly because they compare them too much to AUTOPSY which of course is ridiculous as it's NOT the same band or exact style. Even so many years after AUTOPSY broke up as today it seems that it`s still the same situation... People are idiots. Horns up to ABSCESS from my side for sure.

LAST WORD FROM YOU AND BANDS PLANS FOR 2010 YEAR?

2010 will bring the release of our delayed debut record, more exclusive compilation tracks, a small European tour with DEAD INSTRUMENT, U.K show, possibly a split record and then we`ll probaly start focusing on writing material for our next full length on XTREEM MUSIC records... And that`s just what we've got lined up so far. No rest for the wicked.

Exterminatorium interview

EXTERMINATORIUM RAISED THEIR HORNS IN 2008 AND NOW THEY SPIT FORTH THEIR DEBUT 5 TRACK DEMO THAT WILL APPEAL TO ALL THOSE WHO PRAISE WAR AND CHAOS, OTHERS MAY BE AS WELL DEAD! HERE'S INTERVIEW WITH DHIEGO.

CAN YOU INTRODUCE THE BAND MEMBERS? WHAT DO YOU DO EXCEPT MUSICK?

Greetings Bartek, first and foremost like to thank you for this interview. The Exterminatorium has two members so far, Dhiego Silva (Drums) and Allan Cyriaco (guitar and vocals). Apart from the dedication to Death Metal, we practice the Brazilian jiu-jitsu there.

YOU HAVE A DEMO RECORDED, WHAT IS THE FEEDBACK SO FAR, DOES IT SPREAD WELL?

Yes, we put quite a demo, sent several copies to Polish Hellbangers , United States, Mexico, Norway, Colombia, Uruguay and Italy were the countries to which we send the material. Because it is the first demo, the expectations have been hit since the first draft just very fast.

DEMO IS TITTLED #PRELUDIUM TO AMAGEDDON#. I THINK ARMAGEDDON TO COME IS THE BE FULL LENGTH RELEASE. HOW ABOUT IT, DO YOU HAVE SOME SERIOUS OFFER YET? HAVE NEW STUFF WRITTEN?

#Preludium of Armageddon# is the beginning of everything, many people who had made several critical acclaim for the work. We are composing new sounds for our next work, the EP "Bellicus Inferno", due out in early 2010. After that we will record a full album, and try to close with any distributor.

DO YOU PLAY LIVE OFTEN? WAS THERE ANY SHOW YOU REMEMDER ESPECIALLY? HAVE YOU PLAYED OUTSIDE BRASIL?

We ended the year 2009 with 6 presentations, the best presentation without doubt it was the show alongside Queiron, one of the most fucked-extreme metal bands here in Brazil. So far we have not had the opportunity to leave Brazil, but we have plans for it.

YOU PERFORM LIVE AS TWO-PIECE, RIGHT? DIDN'T YOU THINK ABOUT HAVING BASS PLAYER TO INCREASE FIREPOWER?

Undoubtedly a bass is really useful, low let our sound more weight and increase the firepower of the band. But as yet no one appeared to have attitude and posture enough, stayed in the double front lines of battle.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR"DREAM OF LIFE" TOUR BAND AND WHY IT IS SLAYER?

No doubt a tour would be the dream of every band that is starting, but I think for that we will disclose our full album, to generate some contacts, it would be killer for this Exterminatorium.

DO YOU PLAY ANY COVERS LIVE?

Currently not, but we have some idea of playing covers of old bands that we enjoy, such as Motorhead and Black Sabbath. Also we would do a cover in tribute to the beginnings of Brazilian death metal, as the Sepultura ( Morbid Visions ) and Sarcofago ( I.N.R.I. )

BRASIL IS BEST KNOWN OF ULTRA-FAST/SATANIK DEATH METAL BANDS. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN OTHER KINDS OF METAL? HOW ARE THEY POPULAR IN YOUR COUNTRY?

Actually, I think Brazil is the birthplace of brutal death metal, which began with the masters of Krisiun. But there are other aspects of extreme metal here, there are many black metal bands very cool here, for example Ocultan, which I think is the biggest in the style here in Brasil. Brasil is a very radical country, extreme metal here is treated very seriously.

YOU POINT THAT BRASILIAN AND POLISH BANDS INFLUENCE EXTERMINATORIUM MOST. WHICH POLISH BANDS YOU RESPECT MOST?
Man we love the extreme polish metal, the bands that we enjoy are: Azarath, Preludium, Infernal War, Dissenter, Stillborn, Eclypse, Lost Soul, Gortal, Hell United, Trauma, Ulcer Uterus, Thunderbolt, Masachist, Deception, Mastabah, Vader and the great Behemoth. Poland is one of the best scenes of extreme metal in my opinion.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THESE BANDS: ANGELCORPSE, IMPIETY, BEHEMOTH

Angelcorpse: fucked, #Exterminate# and #Inexorable# are the elite of the extreme metal.
Impiety : Wonderful, very extreme and hateful albums, great influence to the Exterminatorium.
Behemoth: very technical and aggressive, currently one of the best extreme metal bands in the world.
